I am getting sick and tired of working on cheap computers. ( emachine, HP and Compaq ).
When will people learn?
Damn hard drives always fail after one year.

People will never learn.
We live in an age where most people can afford to have PCs. However, 95% of the households that have them should in fact not even be allowed near one.
My close friend runs a tech support/repair service around town. He visits your average household, but also some pretty high up clients (doctors offices, lawyers offices etc. etc.).
If you could only hear some of the stories he has told..oh my christ. Its the kind of thing that makes you lose faith in humanity.
A bigshot lawyer with his own practice, yet within 5 days of my friend disinfecting/cleaning/firewalling his comp. , he had run it to shit again. Even after my friends lecture of what NOT to do.
Your average household is just as bad.

JUST CLICK NO - or I willl fucking shoot you.....

That has nothing to do with cheap computers, but with cutting production costs and lowering general quality. I've made the experience at work that the quality of hard drives has really gone down. And it's not just the cheap ones, but all of them. We recently ordered a new 15TB Raid system wich came equipped with 400GB Hitachi sata hd's (raid editions). A few weeks later 5 were already broken. Same goes for scsi hd's, not the same quality like they used to be.

Yes Dell & HP Pcs really stink - had onboard graphic cards blowing on HP & HDDs failing in Dell (IBM Deskstars). Always found it best to build my own systems - work fine for years (8 years & counting on an old P60).
Compaq Proliant is really the only way to go with PC servers.

Well, they are trying to cram in more and more data on the same area of spinning disk, so it's not at all weird to have this trend. Also, there are several ways a hdd can 'break', I'm assuming that you mean that it starts getting a butload of corrupt data, in which case 1/2 of the HDDs are still salvagable and could serve for a while longer after a few procedures have been preformed on them. Also HDD's motor could break, the needle could dislocate, heat damage to chips... But we are talking about the usual kind of kaput, right? I've just lost a 250 gib baby in a series of small fires. With some 'advanced' software I was able to read some data off it, but it was real slow, so I said - fuck it, i'm getting a new HDD. Maybe this is the price we have to pay for cheap roomy drives? - A yearly cost.

What the hell are you talking about? Didn't it ever cross your mind that not everyone is interested in computers? That some just want to use their computers to send and recieve e-mails, browse the internet or whatever, and therefor don't feel that they need no-more general knowledge in the subject?
The same thing goes for cars and a bunch of other stuff. I'm not the slightest interested in whatever is under my hood or how many horsepowers a car got, but still, when i get my license i want a decent car.
Youre losing faith in humanity because people aren't interested in computers? Maybe you need to get out more...

You may have missed my point man.
I understand that there are some people that could give two shits about their PC.
However, this does NOT give them an excuse to be complete fucking idiots about basic matters.
When you tell them what NOT TO DO, and they turn around and fucking do it anyway...
One of my buddies customers had the audacity of accusing him of installing a dialer on his PC, resulting in a monthly phone bill of $5,000USD. Of course, the dialer was cause the stupid fuck was browsing free porn, even after he was warned against it.
Don't think you can understand where I am coming from until you've seen it yourself firsthand
Trust me, you don't wanna experience it heh.

I have experienced it first hand. it is to me all my freinds come to whenever they have a problem with their com.
But you should realise that it is very probable that the guys that he talked to didn't know what the hell was being said so they just nodded their heads to not look like a retard

I always rather format the HD, then work on the PC. And especially if kids are users.

Why wouldn't someone who's buying their first computer buy a dell or hp or whatever? they see them in ads and stuff and think that they ought to be the best. remember, they are NEW to the buisness, they don't even know what a video card is!
I bet that 75 % of the people who today have a non-company-made computer started with a company-made!

honestly, i think dells are not THAT bad, all depends what you use your computer for. for gaming, sure it sucks. but my mother in law bought a dell last year, and all she does on that is browsing through the net and play some hoyle casino thats it, and for that a dell is just fine. and about 90% of the hardcore gamers build their own systems anyway, so there is no reason to talk down on dell or hp, they just offer cheap computers to the beginners...
