Trainers are for kids, get proper shoes. The more they have leather, the better. Leather is cool.

You either have really really heavy footstep or you're buying cheap crappy shoes 
The thing you mention happened back when I was in middle school, and was buying cheap knockoffs on the marketplace xD
These days when I'm buying a bit more expensive shoes, I haven't noticed any grid underneath the sole of the shoes...

Quality of Sketchers?! O.o
Sorry, but quality is not something I associate with Sketchers :\ I had some bad experience with them...
Last year I had these:
And I loved them 
In the end the bottom part cracked on the bend, but only because I wore them everywhere, I even cycled in them (which undoubtedly contributed to the cracking), but they looked awesome and were super comfy 
Now I have these:
And they are great looking, but I should have bought a bigger size, since Nike has weird matrix, but I'm breaking them in (I got nasty calluses a month back, but it's getting better )

I never wore skater style shoes, but these were just perfect ^^
And why is brown the worst color? I like it, and if I untie them, they have 'skaterish' look, and if I tie them they look elegant.
Black ones looked dull imo...

I bought a pair of Timberland boots last winter for a shitload of money (170 euros), from a certified store. I thought they will last till i die, yet the soles (on both boots) became loose in 1.5 months. I didn't climb mountains and shit, just went to office and back. Oh the rage...
