x2 is a good choice as its ready for future games using dual core , can most likely clock to fx 55 speeds ( my 4800 did 2.7 on air). but there hard to keep within safe limits temperature wise when overclocking unless you have good cooling other then air.
fx55 is a great cpu still and easier to keep cool if overclocking.
i say get the x2 for future proofing but if its just for games get the fx55 , unless there the same price , then get the x2 2 is better then 1

You can get the X2 4800 slightly cheaper then fx55, but they are both in the same price range, expensive. I too would like to hear some opinions/reviews.

Shit you guys must be loaded! I would only spend that amount of money on a graphics card.

Well i went for the cheaper 4400+ . twice the price for .4 ghz? not worth it imo . i'd go for the X2 though because its much better to have two. The 4400+ can be overclocked to probably 2.4 too but i know ollax is a rich mofo so go for whatever...... i know that if i was gonna 'waste' money like that i'd have to go all the way and get the fx 57 though.

Get an Opteron 165/170 and OC it to 2.8ghz. It rapes the shit out of both of those processors.
1mb*2 l2 cache and its dual core. Overclocks like crazy and is cheap. GG.
