i'm totally lost here... i managed to get pop3 running on my laptop, but only by yanking out my cdrom drive.
----

on my desktop i have one SATA harddrive, and two cd/dvd drives that are PATA.
I for some reason have two Primary IDE channels, one containing both cd drives, the other containing myharddrive. i also have a Secondary IDE channel that is apparently empty.

How should i go about circumventing starforce?

i've tried disabling all but the channel on which my harddrive is while using sfcure and sfnightmare and a multitude of other combinations... i really don't want to have to open my case each time and unplug my cd rom drives....

well i'm just trying to understand all this at the moment... i don't see why it makes a different if i can disable my cd rom drives from the bios... if i do that their controller doesn't even show up anymore in the dev manager.

Starforce will still see it Its a very nasty protection.I even tried creating a new hardware profile with ALL IDE disabled, but because the optical was still plugged in it was still detected.

Because some software level drivers are like a soccer mom with her only child. You don't go nowhere near him, you hear me Starforce?

Generally, with the current level Starforce Protection, it can seem to penetrate nForce3 and nForce 4 IDE drivers. In fact, with my nForce 4 and its NVIDA nForce Parrallel ATA driver, I can leave my optical drives plugged (they are IDE) and play with any protection by just mounting them on Daemon. I am yet to try Starforce (Because I am scared of the POSSIBLE damage it could cause) but I am getting X3 now.

If you have an nForce3 or 4 board do 2 things:
1. Install the general chipset driver.
2. Go to your deveice manager. Under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, make sure that you have an nForceX PATA controller. If its not there, select the controller (it will be named std. something) and update it manually (point it to your nForce Driver folder, were the stuff was installed).
That did the trick for me.

After that I did not need to disable by drives at all to play any game. Just mount ISO. Thats it. Of course this 'hole' will be fixed in the future. Heck, I am sure some jealous rat nOOb will send the hole to Starforce himself. But here is to hoping that by then the IDE daemon is here or at least the IDE jammer.
