What a game been playin it for about an hour and it's surprisingly good. The ign rating is low (even though its a 9) i think the voice acting is actually good and made me chuckle. The gameplay is nice too with the 'timing' of attacks and dodging adding to the concentration.

yea but i think it's gotta be a 10/10. 9 seems to take the edge off it. Even though I dont particularly like RPG's or reading a lot with hardly any action this game is great. Look at the points of the ign review (http://ds.ign.com/articles/671/671781p1.html):
9.0 Presentation
The DS design sticks exclusively with the system's two screen functionality and leaves everything else about the handheld alone.
8.0 Graphics
The visual style of the GBA game stays the same on the DS, with very little in the way of whiz-bang effects. The character animation is done well, and always brings a chuckle.
8.5 Sound
Mario and Luigi intentionally speak gibberish, but it works well with the story. The game's soundtrack fits the Marioesque theme with original pieces and remixed classics.
9.0 Gameplay
Fun, amusing, and lengthy adventure that starts out easy but curves up nicely in difficulty and challenge without going too hard.
9.0 Lasting Appeal
You'll be spending twenty hours plus in this meaty single player adventure. Time well spent.
I think the graphics are perfect for the game. Flashy 3D effects woulda spoilt it for me. Nintendo got it spot on.
sound 8.5? Honestly I haven't seen better voice actin on a DS.. since there's hardly any!. But in this although it's part gibberish / some words it's comical in a kenny (from south park) way and makes me laugh
The gameplay is good especially when you get all 4 together and the game really opens up. There's more puzzles, battles are much better too with combos getting trickier.
and lasting appeal of 20 hours...... I'd say that's more than good! it doesn't rely on gimmicks of 'collectables' or things like that which annoy me.
So far this game is the best NDS game. Better than mariokart because mariokart has the '3 star rating' which pisses me off because Idk what times i need to beat to get 3 stars.

I'm buying this for sure, along with Mario Kart DS. Love the mario and luigi rpg games, very good humor and just fun light-hearted games.

yes I do realise mario kart got a 9.5 and deservedly so. But in terms of perfection I think this is it. Mario kart is flawed.Yes it's great and has a LOT more to do etc. But it's like comparing a sponge with a brush.

The only thing wrong with mario kart DS is the over simplified wifi-play game matching.

and then music... I only liked the snes music and although its on the retro tracks i'd have preferred the same style throughout. I also think that 50cc is far too easy. On the snes it was easy but still frantic. I also don't like the wiggly power boost. just perfect power sliding on the snes on ghosthouse was the shit.
Also u cant go across the mud on the first circuit (forgot the name).. if u do it slows u down badly.
And like i said.. i think it should have the times to beat for the 3 stars 2 stars 1 etc. I'll play it properly when a good faq comes out with GP times but until then its gonna lie down .
O and mario and luigi just keeps getting better and better it even has l33t speak

Surprisingly good? Every Mario/RPG has been completely top-notch.

Well i played mario and luigi on the GBA and it didn't quite attract me like this has. I'm thinking of playing it (after ive completed this of course) but i feel it'll be a step backwards

Yeah this game is really good. It's even managing to keep me away from Mario Kart. The combat system is really nice - I like how it's based on timing and requires a bit of skill. The game also has a really nice feel to it and it has a great sense of humour.
