Is it possible to play an .avi file on a standalone Sony DVD player? For example, if i burn the .avi file onto a CD and insert it into the DVD player, will it play the .avi file? (i take it it won't).

Any help?

Where can I find some detailed information about this. i've tried Doom9.org, but can't find any info directly on point

they make dvd players that support divx and even xvid now so it depends on whether or not your dvd player can read those formats.

go to the site hitman suggested and find a program avi2mpeg2 so you can convert the video into dvd form. If you dont have a dvd burner your screwed some/most sony dvd players don't play vcd's which is the format you would need. Avi are unplayable on sony products so conversion is your only option

if u have the AHEAD.NERO.v6.3.POWERPACK.RETAIL or any nero v.6 for that matter i suppose u can do it all with 1 click. If u choose and option any option to compile a DVD or VCD/SVCD and use an avi file, it does the conversion automatically for you and then burns the CD/DVD. That what I use to do before I bought a DVD that plays Divx/Xvid (yamada 6600).

The only issue you have to take care of before doing this is to check if your DVD plays VCD/SVCD discs.

good luck

I think the best and easiest solution is to buy the Philips DV642!
Its only like $79, plays DIVX/XVID (Not counting QPEL). I really like it.

About Hitman: Movie (2007)
Vin Diesel is a hardcore gamer, and absolutely loves the Hitman series. For that reason I have faith that he wont destroy the movie.

Response: Well, Uwe Boll probably loved the Alone in the Dark games.

Check here http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers if your DVD Player supports DivX or XviD, but i doubt it since its a Sony, and they don't support that up to now.

my sony dvd player is quite new and wont play any thing apart from orianial dvds. best thing to do is look for the most cheepest dvd player you can find. They play almost anything now. you will still have to convert it to mpeg 2
