Okay I'm setting up a PC network using a D Link DL 524 wireless router. Everything is fine for a while apart from the machine being riddled with viruses, trojans, worms and spyware. The adaware was 209 days out of date. After I cleared all that it all seemed to be working correctly. He rang me up this morning saying that he was being disconnected from the net every few minutes. So I noticed that after a few mins the PC/Activity light would go solid and I would be disconnected. The modem is a Motorola SB5101E. So I rang the ISP and after a few mins they concluded that the modem is faulty. The thing seems to download a certain ammount of data before it disconnects. So if I just surf the net I can remain connected for about five mins. But if I start downloading a file it won't stay connected more than a few seconds.
Anyone know if theres a way around this until Telewest replace the modem on Tuesday?

Just got my 8mbit line using a d-link dt-300t, and it did allmost the same thing.
but i just called my ISP, and told them about the problem... He could see something was wrong on the isp end, so he had it fixed within 2 min.
Some ISP are rude and tell you that its your end its wrong with, try calling them again and ask for another person, if they then cant see the problem, then its prob your modem.

It could be that the line is poor and the modem is having hard time keeping up with the set rate. Try setting it to a lower speed like 33.6.
Oh, you mean one of THOSE modems. I have no clue. L0L
