This is wacked. I have Rogers Digital Cable so I get all the CityTV channels - Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton etc etc
Anyway, they were showing Anger Management on CityTV West (CITYW - Vancouver) at 3:35am EST (so 1:35am PST, past midnight). Since its one of my favourite movies, I wanted to watch it.
Anyway, about 15-20 mins in I noticed they were editing out EVERY SINGLE "bad" word...Im not talking words like "motherfucker", "cunt", "cocksucker" etc...
Like that part when Adam Sandler first joins the group and the lesbian chicks are talking about why they are in the group, the use the words, bitch and skank...which were edited...as well as other common words that arent ever edited out - such as shit, fuck, slut, whore, asshole, bullshit, dickhead etc etc
So, since I hate watching edited shit, I changed the channel. An hour later on CITYV (I think thats either Edmonton or Winnipeg) they were showing it again so, since nothing else was on, and I decided to watch it. But to my surprise, not one word was edited out - not one.
Anyone have any ideas as to why one CityTV channel would edit every single fuckin word and other CityTV channels like Toronto, Edmonton, Winnipeg dont even edit racial slurs?

Sounds like they have the children safe versions playing when -suprise- children would be watching TV, and the normal versions during when -suprise- they wouldn't normally be watching TV.
IMO I would support them for doing that.

I would not. censoring the channels is playing to lazy parents who can't monitor what their kids are watching. There's a rating system in place, and the fact that Daddy can't get his lazy ass up to grab the remote and program PG-13 into Junior's TV shouldn't mean that I have to listen to censored crap.

BS Accell, if I posted a pic of my peen and didn't censor it you'd friggen wish I had so don't say you're against "all forms of censorship"
OnTopic: MCHart, read the original post again, he said he was watching it PAST midnight. Sure many kids are up watching titty flicks on Showcase but the one who are are old enough to watch an uneditted Anger Management. Like nouse said, it was probably a goof. Although since he was watching different CityTV stations, it could also be a provincial law that required it. Not sure though, since I was under the impression that was governed by the CCSB (Canadian Content Standards Bureau) or the CSC (Canadian Standards Council)...not sure which...lol bureaucracy...

Yes, censorship leads to stricter censorship; however, many parents suck, and then their children end up watching the shit on TV anyways. What would you choose, a kid that thinks he is a 'gangstar' and dresses up like an african american, or a kid that is normal, dresses normal, and doesnt listen to music which is about raping women, and killing people.
I dont know about you, but I would choose the latter. Besides that, it's not like his viewing experiance of the un-edited movie was completely removed from him, he still had the option of watching it later that night un-cut. (and with the advent of TIVO like devices, the time of which something airs really is not an issue, unless of course you do not have a TIVO like device.)

For the first part of your comment, I live in Brooklyn. If you're not aware, that's where the whole trend started.
For the second part, lazy parents are society's problem and their own. The fact that they're going to be lazy parents anyway doesn't give us an excuse to appease them with censorship. Some content should not be viewed by children until a certain level of maturity (something that has very little to do with age), but actual LAWS being enforced? If I'm standing in the street, should I not smoke, or limit my expression, because kids might walk by? I'm sorry, but society setting a positive example is a two-sided stick. Yes, in the end, we'll theoretically have kids with marginally better moral fiber, but what next? Strict enforcement of WASP morals in our legal system to "benefit" us? If a parent decides to show their child pornography, the makers of the TV, the DVD player, and the content are most certainly not liable for it, the parents are, just as the parents should be liable for being too lazy to monitor their child's content consumption to the degree of their ability. That's why kids have to be supervised. It is the action or inaction of the individual, not the society, that constitutes a crime.
I have nothing against parental aids, mind you. Rating locks on DVD players and TVs get two thumbs up from me. But censoring content from EVERYONE because of the disregard of some for their duties or their incompetence, is stupid. We already live in an Orwellian world, and this only adds to it.
