I've never been temp banned or banned before, and to have my reputation tarnished because of technical info being posted in the pc games forum because there was already a discussion of it going on is very depressing. I don't think I've ever been disappointed in a mod ever in the many years I've been here.
I won't mention any names, but because this is a bitching forum, I guess we get to see what happens to me and what the reach of this mod might actually do. Anyway, I just needed to bitch about it.
Flame me if you please, it's your right here.

Well the mod was me and don't be so upset man!
You only got banned for 2 hours for contributing to that technical discussion. The 2 hours are for the fact that you are a regular here and I wanted to take that into consideration.
The fact is that I (and other mods) have warned several times that technical discussions should be held in the appropiate forum. Each time these warnings are ignored and therefor other measures should be used. Other people got banned too and they didn't get off with 2 hours!
You can bitch about it here, there won't be happening anything to you...you act like I'm on your ass all the time now, but that's not true.
So, it's nothing personal but what I tried to acconmplish with that ban seems to work.
So let's have a Heineken and be friends again

Seriously though, the only person who can tarnish your reputation is you, I wouldn't worry what a mod has said. Plus, virtually every senior member has been, or is, disappointed in a mod.

Let's have this discussion in this thread then. Please come out with names, shirtnumbers an reasons. Gloves off but there will be no banning or shit like that from the stuff that is discussed in this thread.
We're not getting anywhere with a dissappointing post about a mod here and there. Apparantly members have problems with one or more mods and maybe this all can be resolved by actually discussing it with no brakes on.
I don't like the fact that people have problems with the moderation. We actually want to do a good job here and apparantly it's not working.
So please...talk to us.

I understand everything thats been said so far, but I've never been specifically warned about talking about tech stuff in the PC game forum. I know people do it on a regular basis. I've actually never, ever read about it in a forum, so I must be missing when these warnings happen.
And I know it was you Apex, and I know why you did it, but it definately pissed me off to see that I'd been banned for something so silly, no matter the length.

noone will remember you got banned. temp banned for 2h. it's like you flew out of class for a lesson. while others get dispelled from school. no big deal after all.

I can say that banning me for something I didn't know I would be banned for, if even for 2 hours, was a serious piss off. A private message would have been courteous.
As a long time member, I've never had a problem with anything you have, or any other mod has done until now. I've had problems with what you guys haven't done on the occasion though. I mean, letting these people arrive on these forums, and shit talk everyone and everything, get away with it. They continue to think they can get away with it and develop big post counts. People like that need to be nipped in the bud.
A site with the content this site does indeed have will attract many people under the age of 15, and though I don't necessarily have a problem with the age of these individuals, their lack of experience (in general, without exception of course) causes them to act immaturely or retaliate where they shouldn't.
On the whole the moderators, I do believe, have done a decent job of filtering the crap, and integrating themselves into the community though.
In response to Toeffy. I don't care if no one remembers I got banned, I'll remember I got banned. This isn't an issue of me not being able to read the forums or whatever, it's something that shouldn't have happened unless I actually did something to flagrantly disregard the rules.

I'm sorry you feel that way, but in almost every thread I look in I have to delete 30, 40 or even 50 posts about technical stuff, protection shit or other stuff and every time I post a message saying that people should post in the appropiate forum I'm just ignored and people continue with what they where doing. I've warned several times with temp bans, but the warnings apparantly weren't enough.
So this time I've temp banned a couple of users including regular members. The "newbs" got a longer temp ban than the regulars. If I'd temp banned the newbs and gave the regulars a warning then that would not have been fair, would it?

I don't see a sticky saying anything about it Apex, not in the forum rules. I thought banning was for breaking the rules?
Why not make a sticky saying that posting technical questions in the game discussion forum will get you temp banned. If I had been aware it was as heavily frowned upon as it seems to be, I wouldn't have done it, and made a mental note to never do it.

It's not heavily frowned upon, but it has just gotten out of hand lately. And I thought that lot of members have a problem with game threads glogging up with these kind of posts...

i swear we had a sticky that said technical stuff in technical section. I maded it i believe.
I think i renamed it:

I do believe you guys have done a good job seriously. I made my opinions clear earlier, but I don't suspect many people being honest or giving you bad feedback. You're probably the best group of mods I've dealt with, but being the type of person I am, I just have to bitch about something like this to get it off my chest.

my problem is that people post shit about mods but beat about the bush with it...stuff like "you know who you are" and all that.
Get it out in the open, there will be no repercussions, so that we will have a chance to give our opinion about it...
There's a growing "we dont like the mods" atmosphere going on here but no one is really coming out with his problems.

you know people are very fast to burn a mod for any temp bann ( which i never see as an issue since its TEMP, but you talk about your rep, i wont get into that) but that should NOT make you get disappointed in them.. apex for example had TONS of deleting posts, moving and banning just last night.. i mean i don't know many other mods including myself who have that much patience and dedication to cleaning the games forum which are a huge headache... give a little break to the guy and the 2 hours is really nothing bud... a fast game or dinner or whatever takes care of it...

About mods here, I have no problem with them, I think they do a great work and I love all of you guys...

MOST mods do an alright job although they are slow. There's a strong bias though and some mods shouldn't be mods at all. |

Alot of people won't even dare be negative towards the mods, even in a general way, because they're worried they'll get banned. Then there are other people who think brown nosing is the way to go, because they think that'll gain favour or they want to be a mod themselves.
Personally the reason why I don't name anyone is because I don't want to become an enemy of any mod, purely because they'll then go though my posts looking for excuses to ban me, and in the long run it will happen.
What you need to do is set up an anonymous poll, and ask people to vote for which mod they are most disappointed in. That way you can get a general idea of where the problems lie.
