ok, I want to remove my hard drive from my system to use in my PS2 (I have 2 Hard Drives in my PC and only need 1 now....) any way, I thought it would have been a simple task, so I turn the computer off and remove my 80gb Drive (My drive that does NOT have windows on, only Games). I then put it in my PS2 and say fook yea, it fits the network adaptor without haveing to mod it Very Happy.... BUT then I turn the PC Back on and it says something like "BOOT ERROR, Loaded Boot data from Drive C but Boot Table is damaged"

So I go "NNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooo" I thought I lost all the data and important Emails etc.......... untill I put the Hard Drive I just put into the PS2 back into the machine and it booted perfectly again...

So how do I remove the drive without fooking up the bootup table thing??

Thanks

What is your setup of partitons on both drives Steve? On what partition is your windows located (the windows folder that is). Is it the first primary partiton on the drive you left in the pc, and this drive is jumpered master on the primary ide channel?

You may need to simply do a "fixboot" and "fixmbr" in the windows recovery console (found when you boot using an XP install CD).. I would think along the same lines as WhoKnows, your either taking out the wrong HDD, or you have saved the boot record on the OTHER Hard drive.

The commands above generally fix that issue.

Thats why, you are removing the drive that would contain the boot infomation.

The first drive allways contains this.

FixBoot will fix your current bootloader configuration. Fix MBR will re-write your master boot record. If you take out the 80Gb drive, thus losing your MBR with the correct information on it, do a fixmbr to re-write that information onto the correct drive. You could also install a 3rd party boot loader like grub/lilo or bootmagic.

Put it on the primary channel (master) to make sure, some older boards have problems booting from the secondary channel. Also make sure that the partition is set active.

Use partition magic, makes it an easy job!
