r_displayRefresh
To enable the console create a shortcut that appends +seta com_allowConsole "1" to Quake 4 press CTRL+ ALT+ ~ (US Keyboards) or CTRL+ALT+ ' (UK Keyboards)
Quake4.exe +seta com_allowConsole "1"
Access the console using the ' key (below ESC).

My solution:
Create an "autoexec.cfg" file in X:\Quake 4\q4base\ directory and place this line in it:
Code: | r_displayRefresh "xx" |
where XX is a refresh rate (85, 100 etc)

I suggest everyone who has some type of graphic card prob that they update the drivers...I can run quake 4 maxed out now, no slowdown...since I installed most recent drivers for my card
