I'm buying a logitech MOMO wheel this week as I've heard good things, but I'm just wondering what I can sink my teeth into when I eventually plug it in?

Obviously Toca Race Driver 2 was the most recent game that comes to mind, but it's hardly a simulation and I can't say the demo impressed me much either - but then I'll be sure to give it a try with the wheel in case that alters perception.
Still it's more entertainment than challenge I think, like NFS:Underground, a game I enjoyed a lot, but on pure gaming terms.

I have heard also about Live for speed (on the old forum actually), just I can't drive for shit with either my joystick or gamepad - something which prompted me to finally plump for a wheel.... not pricey, but doesn't seem overflowing with features either Wink This is the game I've bought it for, it seems there is an influx of 'bedroom' style programmers going at it in the simulation market, so I might be able to get some value for money (MIGHT!)

Anyway what is everyone elses racing recommendations? I don't care whether it's old or new, in fact I'm considering getting NFS: Porsche Challenge (or whatever it's called Very Happy), that Swedish Touring Car game.... (whatever that's called too!) and a couple of other 'oldies' installed.

advice?

Logitech Momo is just awsome!

Too bad I can't find any simulator game(s) that has that little extra...
Sure TOCA Race Driver 2 is ok with it!

About NFS:Underground and wheel... Nah.. Sure ok at start but later on its not fun, just arcadish.. and a analog gamepad wins by far means...

One thing you must test is the "GTR" Demo tho... Awsome feeling with the Logitech MOMO!

If you find any other good "simulator" games let us know!

are you sure S2 is imminent? I was thinking about putting off buying S1 in case that happened, I have read only later this year, nothing definite - but I'm not a regular on any of the websites so any tips on that would be great.

Enknown, currently downloading GTR demo, it sounds very promising!

BTW thanks for the Racingsim website link Makev, number of forums and topics a bit overwhelming but I've been searching around, so far so good Smile

...and as for the Stunt suggestion, well, I don't think you've quite understood my definition of old Very Happy

I also have a MOMO wheel, but the original version, witch was more robust and comes with a real leather wheel (and 2x the price). Too bad they choosed to only go mainstream market with those, lowering the quality, I don't mind paying more for awesome products like that. Still it's an amzing product, a good wheel make the gaming expeirence sooooo much better.

I think Rally trophy and Ralysport charlenge are the best rally games. dont even bother with the Collin Mc rae crap as it doesn't even have a decent force feedback, so weak that it's better disabling it and simply just use the centering forcespring. And it looks like shit...

I bough Toca Race Driver 2 and it have a pretty poor force feedback support too, at least it's offering a great multiplayer and a wide variety of races, cars and tracks.

Best FFB effect I ever saw was in Nascar Season 2003 from Papyrus. In this one you really felt the velocity and the tire grip on the road, it's the only game I saw with such effect. Usually you only feel vibrations and bumps, this was awesome and this is one of the most amazing racing simulation ever created, too bad Nascar tracks themselves are boring. and too bad that the Eviltronic arts bough the exclusivity of the Nascar liscence, kllling this awesome serie made with passion by real racing freaks.

Talking of the evil, Need for speed underground is pretty cool with force feedback too but it have nothing of a sim. IMO Need for speed porche Unleashed had one of the best force feedback ever made, it's an old game but nothing have beaten it yet in that range, shitload of tracks and cars (90 cars!), kickass multiplayer support and it had so much features with the money system, cars cutomisation and trade etc... Too bad EA went the easy way with the need for speeed serie, only money matter, no passion in the making at all, strict minimum and that's it, making sure we got bored of the game fast so we buy the next year version...

Live for speed all the way. Nothing comes even close to it.
TOCA 2 is nice graphics but compared to LFS it's a stupid arcade racer. You play it through once but then it's over.

The realism of LFS gets me back behind my wheel to drive a new personal best time or to race some nice ppl online.
And yes S2 will be here soon and it looks VERY promising.

got my wheel a couple of days ago, it's taken some getting used to (actually made me a lot slower and felt less realistic to begin with, but with some tweaking and practice I think I'm 'breaking it in')

It's a very click clickty wheel, the sequential shifter and the paddles behind the wheel mainly - it's not very satisfying to use them for something as often as switching gears Sad I'm sure you know the feeling, as if your about to break it!

I'd also like to know whether setting the force feedback values to around 150 is in anyway unhealthy for the wheel?

So far I'm enjoying Nascar Racing Season 2003 & Live for Speed, I'm no hotshot just yet but it's fun so far and a lot more enjoyable than without a wheel plus FFB Very Happy

GTR demo wasn't impressive in anything other than sound or graphics, the actual driving must be an aquired taste as it just felt 'off' for me, but then that might be because I don't really like these kind of 'cars' I don't know.

I hear you. I bought the Logitech GT wheel for Gran Tursimo 3, and found it to be 10x harder to use than the good 'ol dualshock. Took it back the next day... Laughing

One of the best games, though an older one, is Sports Car GT.

Spent many, many hours playing that game and still fire it up occasionally.

I actually Play Toca race driver 2, witch is a pretty good game game but it have a pretty weak force feedback, at least the multiplayer part is great.

Need for speed Underground have a better force feedback support but multiplayer suck big time as you can't chat and rematch after a race because of the PS2 compatibility crap they integrated in this game.

Rallisport Charlenge and Rally Trophy are the best looking rally games with the best force feedback support, really kickas games, both of them (rallisport have a better value).

Then you got the Collin mc rae, personally I hate it, it look like a 3 years old game and have the weakest force feedback support ever. It's so weak that I preffer disabling it and use centering force spring instead...

I'm no hardcore sim racer but Nascar Season 2003 from Papyrus is the most awesome simulation I ever played, best force feedback ever created, really amazing. + the real time sart lineups and pit stops, yeallow flags, most amazing crashes ever done in a racing game and a very kewl video editing for your replays to make your own movies. Over that you can create your own car skins etc... Only bad thing is that I hate Nascar racind, spining in the same direction for hours is boring to me!
