I'm having problem with blue screen of death with driver IRQ_LESS_OR_EQUAL

I'v discovered that's it is caused by my On Board Audio Chip AC'97 - I had this problem mainly in RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 and now again but only few times in Age3. I'm having Soltek nForce2 SL-75FRN MBD with latest drivers.

anyone having same issues and/or solution?

what exact drivers are you using?

disable unneeded stuff in the bios, like com ports, printer ports, game ports and if you do not own a floppy drive: disable thte controller.

Its a hardware issues/Virtual IRQ issue. Try the following:

The IRQ shuffle

Sorting out an IRQ conflict isn't the most attractive thing to do, but it is possible.

So, a device in your machine isn't working because you've got an IRQ conflict. Have a look at the System Information utility and make sure that you have got an IRQ free – there are 16 in all (0-15). If they're all used up, then turn off the second COM port in the BIOS - this will free up one IRQ (assuming you haven't got anything attached to the second COM port).

We'll assume that you've got a free IRQ to play around with. If Windows produces an error on IRQ allocation it's generally because your new device needs a specific IRQ that is already being used. The answer is to move the conflicting IRQ to a different channel. Find the hardware in the Device Manager and change the settings under the Resource tab.

Change the device to a free IRQ. It will tell you if the new setting conflicts with anything else and, after a reboot, your problem should be solved. A lot of the time, though, you won't be able to change the IRQ without releasing it in the BIOS first. Have a look under the PnP Configuration section in the BIOS Setup if you're having problems moving a device.

Taken from - http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-gb;835833

NOTE

That quote is taken from an article aimed at Windows 98 users, however some of the practises remain the same (checking bios, freeing IRQ's by disabling or moving hardware - RESOURCES TAB SHOULD BE LOCKED THOUGH!). Windows XP does provide virtual IRQ management, most IRQ's seen on an XP machine are not actual IRQ's but virtual ones assigned by windows, there are 254 of these IRQ's.

Your issue lies in your hardware, bios config and windows inability to use PnP in the way it wants, you may find an option in your bios called "PnP Enabled OS" or "PNP Aware OS" - try changing this from off to on, or on to off! You will also find that removing hardware, restarting to windows, shutting down, putting the hardware back and restarting WILL NOT change its IRQ. This is because Windows saves ALL hardware information to avoid future issues, to change these settings you need to REMOVE the hardware profile. This can be found in the "HARDWARE" section of "MY COMPUTERS" Properties - "HARDWARE PROFILES".

I would however suggest disabling un-needed hardware in the BIOS, changing your bios PNP settings and swapping PCI slots of your PCI cards.

Good luck Smile and feel happy its not an IRQL_LESS_OR_EQUAL then you would have real issues Wink

FYI: CHANGING HARDWARE PROFILES CAN BE DANGEROUS, USE ARE YOUR OWN RISK

Isnt IRQL_LESS_OR_EQUAL just to do with Sata drivers and USB 2.0 memory or something? I thought it was just SATA but I read some forum posts mentionned USB 2.0 mem too.

Naw, usually its a RAM issue. Stupid error message that throws a lot of people off the scent but its all about the RAM Smile

Really thx for that reply, I was curios wheather there would be someone with such knowlidge. RE5PECT

Since my problem is 99% from integrated audio card (chipp) I'm not ablke to remove it :-) but I'll try to switch off unnecesary ports or change the IRQs.

If your not using the integrated audio, you should be able to disable it without any issues in the BIOS Smile!

Thats fine, you should just try disabling other hardware, moving other PCI devices into spare slots or new slots and check your PNP settings in the BIOS. These could fix your issue.

You may find a fresh install of windows does the trick too, depends on how much hardware is in your machine and how Windows wants to act at the time Wink!
