Land of the dead review by Robersdee aka: evilmonkey
Well where to begin, I had built up to see this movie for months. Being such a big Romero fan and on top of that I have a penchant for all those 70's 80's b-movie horror flicks so I was extra looking forward to this.
Man o man was I dissapointed, I found it hard to decipher is this was an actual 'zombie' flick or an action movie Featuring 'zombies'. There seems to be no beginning or end to this movie, I almost felt that they had lifted the middle section of a good movie out and released it. Theres countless little plotlines and tidbits of story that are left unexplored for example the licking of the gun sight etc etc, nice little bits that could have done with some back story as a result The characters are flat and 2 dimensional, there isnt any deepness to them and frankly the majority of the characters are very cliche'anyway. How many of you just knew that leguizamo wasnt gonna last till the end being that cocky, and on the flipside how many of you just knew that the burned/idiot guy or if you will 'Robin hood: prince of feebs' was gonna make it.
the first couple of scenes made me laugh out loud, I personally am scared shitless of zombies, laugh if you will but its almost a phobia. Something about the vacancy of them and the way they think just gets me. Despite that I'm glad to say that Romero has cured me, the boyfriend and girlfriend zombies or 'Shaft' the 'leader' of these intelligent? zombies or the ones that really made me chuckle (not a good thing at a horror flick) the goddam all singing/dancing brass band of zombies including a tuba player and tambourine diva! no that wasnt right, sorry but zombie's in movies are indespensible, not (like shaft) one of the recurring leading roles.
This movie totally deflated me, even though there were some nice Romero gory parts it was a letdown, there was no panic to it, and at one point you feel for the 'zombies'! ridiculous to say the least.
I wish I could be more objective but Ive had a few beers so....Discuss!
as i understand it romero has a progression going on with the zombies in his movie triologie...ooops...quadrupelthingstology. anyway, in night of the living dead, they were just going around eating people. in dawn they slowly went back to the places they used to be when they were humans. they gathered at the mall and did all the stupid things they did when they were humans (that's critisizm on society imho) i remeber day not as well as the other two but i read somewhere he said for land he kept this going. so the zombies are starting to become a little more human again by starting to think.
i don't like that idea too much either, but i can understand the motive of this. i liked the first two best. no need for all that stupid action stuff....
btw nerd, best review ever.
i would like to encourage people to write more of their own thoughts about games, music and movies. so thanks for the review, threadstarterguy
