works the same way as with all other firmwares.
Put it in PSP/GAME/UPDATE casesensitive mind you, and you should see it when you go into your memory card as a recycle like icon, launch it and a status indicator comes moving left to right, then you reboot the psp and it has the firmware you just installed or downgraded.
The downgrader worked for me on my PSP 1000-K updated to 2.0, i didn't make this program, so i can't vouch for it, only say that it worked for me.

@Epsilon
you are the first I've seen that say this works.. I do not wanna sound disrespectful, but are you sure you're not BSing us?
EDIT:
This is what people say on PSPUpdates.com:
http://forums.qj.net/showthread.php?t=18105
"i tested it.. i already posted it 3 hours ago..
its just the official 1.50 update bin.. and no you can't use it.. says you have already a higher version"
so Epsilon, Either you have a different "downgrader" or you actually updated the firmware.

Here is some info that i found...somewhere.
Quote: |
Downgrading 2.00 -> 1.50 method
-------------------------------
Requires :
----------
- PSP 2.00 (if you have an 1.51 or 1.52, update to 2.00)
- The 1.50 EBOOT.PBP update (included in package)
- MPHDowngrader (included in package)
Installation :
--------------
- Create a UPDATE folder in PSP/GAME/ folder of your memory stick
- Copy EBOOT.PBP (update 1.50) in UPDATE folder
- Unpack MPHDowngrader.zip
- Copy overflow.tif in your PSP/PHOTO/ folder of your memory stick
- Copy h.bin in root of your memory stick
- Copy index.dat in root of your memory stick
- Plug the AC adaptor
Then, enter in VSHELL PHOTO MENU, this will launch Version Changer.
Create an USB connection and if the Version Changer has been installed, a new file is created in your root of your memory stick (ms0:/index.dat.bak).
Then go to VSHELL GAME MENU and launch 1.50 update.
Follow the instructions ...
MPH

This one seems different that that 1122 studios one. But dont quote me. My PSP is 1.50 so i will not be testing this
Edit: This is the version on pspupdates, seems legit to me.

ALTHOUGH THIS DOES WORK, IF ANY GOES WRONG IT WILL RENDER YOUR PSP AS USEFUL AS NO LUBE IN A WH0RE HOUSE FULL OF TIGHT ARSE`S!
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!
I post these in a separate thread mainly so that its not lost on page 17 of a huge thread and since so many people are still unsure of how the process works.
Again, these are just my instructions so I dont take any responsibility if you make any mistakes. And please read them all before asking any questions!!
And you dont need the frame_buffer.png file to run this downgrade - ignore that.
YOU MUST BE RUNNING VERSION 2.0 IN ORDER TO USE THE DOWNGRADER. UPDATE YOUR FIRMWARE TO THE LATEST VERSION BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS
You will also need your PSP battery to be charged to 51% or over and be running off of the AC adapter (as per usual Sony firmware update requirements)
This downgrade has also been confirmed to work on PSP's from ALL regions (EU / US / JAP) and you can upgrade to 2.0 again should you want to. This has also been tested as working.
Instructions below
1. Start your PSP and activate a USB connection
2. From your PC, open up the PSP in your Windows Explorer and remove any copies of h.bin from the root folder of your PSP. (That is NOT in any directory on the memory stick)
3. Navigate to the PSP/PHOTO folder on your PC and delete any instances of pong.tif, overflow.tif, frame_buffer.png or any other file which you have used for any 2.0 exploits.
4. Extract the overflow.tif file from the MPHDowngrader.zip file and put it into your PSP/PHOTO folder on the memory stick.
5. Extract the h.bin and index.dat files from the MPHDowngrader.zip file and put these into the root of your memory stick. (Please note that this is x:\ [where x: is the drive letter your psp is assigned when using a USB connection] and NOT x:\PSP\ <- VERY IMPORTANT)
6. Extract the EBOOT.PBP file from the other MPH zip file and put that into a folder on your memory stick under PSP\GAME\UPDATE (you will need to create the UPDATE folder if it doesnt already exist)
So far we should have the following files on the memory stick
Code:
root
|
|- h.bin
|- index.dat
|
|-PSP
|
|-GAME
| |
| |-UPDATE
| |-EBOOT.PBP
|
|-PHOTO
|-overflow.tif
7. Press Circle on your PSP to exit USB mode and then navigate to the Photos section from the menu on the psp.
8. Press X to open up the photo's section and then the screen will turn black and some numbers and letters (hex addresses) will appear on the screen - this is normal so dont panic. You should see the memory stick flash for a few seconds as well.
9. Once all memory stick activity has finished, shut down your PSP by holding down the power. You may need to hold this for up to 15 seconds to shut off the PSP
10. Start up your PSP and activate USB mode
11. If you check the root folder on your PSP you should have a few new files and a file called index.dat.bak - If you do not have index.dat.bak - go back to step 1 and start again as you've done something wrong
12. If the file exists then press circle to exit USB mode and then navigate to the Game menu on the PSP and scroll down to Memory Stick. Press X and then you should see the PSP Firmware Update 1.5 listed in there. Press X again to launch it.
13. When the update appears follow the instructions on the update to start the process. You will see a percentage bar appear which will get to 99%
14. An error message WILL appear saying the update has failed and to contact Sony Support. This is normal so dont panic.
15. Power down the PSP by holding down the power switch for up to 15 seconds. Once the PSP has shut down, start it up again.
16. A message will appear on the screen claiming that the system settings have been corrupted. Press the circle button "O" in order to create new settings.
17. The PSP will reboot itself and start up again. You will need to enter your Time Zone and name again. Once you've done this, welcome to your happy new 1.5 PSP!
18. You can remove now any of the extra files that were installed as part of the downgrade now on the memory stick. (h.bin, overflow.tif, the EBOOT.PBP etc)

I hear that there is no problem upgrading back to 2.0. Though I haven't tested this myself.
But I can confirm honestly that this downgrader works. Do not confuse this with the 1122 Studios downgrader that this thread started with! That was fake, and Epsilon did not tell the truth when he said it worked.
This new downgrader uses the newly found 2.0 exploit to change the versionnumber on a PSP 2.0 to 1.0. I do not know what they did with the EBOOT file but after the versionchange it is runable.
Last night I downgraded the same way Headshot did and we both are now proud owners of 1.50. The scary part with this method is that you'll get 2 "errors" and freezes, but I have yet to hear anyone brick theyr PSP! Good luck folks.
Remember that when useing Homebrew you'll need to learn the KXploit, this has been explained in other threads. You need to make 2 folders and so on (eks: PSP/GAME/RIN & PSP/GAME/%RIN), I'm still learning this myself. So if anyone here know how this works, it would be cool if you could share it : )

I had a bit of problem at first. When I went to the photos section to view overflow.tif the PSP would freeze and the screen would go brown! This was for about 15 seconds and then it would just turn itself off! Turns out the overflow file was corrupt! It was only 1kb and it should have been 17kb! Must have been a bad extraction from the rar archive or something because it was fine when I tried it again. One thing I need to know is how do I play my original UMD games on a 1.50 as it just comes up with 'you need to update before you can play the game' or words to that effect!
I wonder how many PSPs have been downgraded since yesterday lol!
May the NFOrce be with you always.

Or use UMDemulator .8c. I have been playing burnout legends on my 1.50 PSP with no issues what so ever. Every ISO i have got working has not needed the WAB version changer to play, regardless of the firmware requirments. Even games like death jr that were previously unplayable with fastloader. Im not sure if its umdemu .8c or the actual ISOs that allow this. You can even play all import games (Such as bleach 1 & 2) with umdemu .8c .
*Note. For everyone that is going to buy a 1 -2 GIG pro duo. Do not buy the Sony brand, there slow as shit. My scandisk pro duo is so much faster. To dump a ISO , say 500 Megs; it only takes about 2 minutes.
Ok one more thing, for using kxploit you actually dont need to know much about it at all, if you are happy with the background and icon of the PSP program. What i mean by this is that most programs you can download for your PSP are ready to rock, no need to set them up with kxploit. For example. DL snes9x emulator from pspupdates, you will get 2 folders. Copy both folders Ie snes9x and the corrupt data folder snes9x% to psp\game. Then go to game, memory stick . And you should have a snes9x icon. Its as easy as that. Now if they file came with the old folder naming convention you will also have corrupted data icons under game, memorystick. There are some simple programs to fix this. Or if you dont really care that the corrupt icons are there you can easily make it so they just show up at the bottom of the list. Cut all the corupt data folders on your Ie snes9x% to a folder on your comp, then just copy them back, and bingo. All the corupt icons are at the bottom.

bit of an update
i have had a 1.50 psp so this method meant nothing to me , but i was keeping an eye on it for friends who had 1.52 ,
well something happened to my psp this afternoon , my little daughter had got hold of it and run the update in burnout ( which i'd left in the psp )
so there i am with a 1.52 which i thought no sweat i can use this new method to downgrade .
now i knew i had to upgrade to 2.00 b4 i could downgrade so hooked my psp to the pc via usb , now when i hit the network update on the psp by accident it connected to the net and d/l the 2.0 update , i thought " wierd didnt know the psp could use usb to connect to net" , so i dealved a little deeper into this and found out that it is not posssible , upon which i d/c the psp from the pc and ventured about my house testing connections via wi-fi , turns out the school next door to me have a unsecure 4mb wi-fi lan .
so i been browsing all day and gotta say the new features with 2.0 are really good , so i have decieded to leave it on 2.0 and maybe buy another psp in the future for homebrew
