I want to hook up my PC to my Xbox to transfer things but i dont want to use a router (i fuckin hate firewalls) so is there an alternative like a hub? and do i need crossover cables??

crossover cable works great here,
but now i have a router, so i dont use crossover cables anymore

Well i need to be able to go on the net since i have a Linux OS that allow me to surf the web on my Xbox so does a Hub will do the same job as a router do?

If you are using Linux, you need some kind of sharing of the internet if you are not going to use a router.
Something like Shorewall will do the job, and is pretty easy to get working.
DHCP server will also set up the xbox if you tell it to use DHCP (cant remember if you need DHCP server installed for Shorewall)
