havent seen this posted on here its quite huge in file size but only a minute long. Not much to see in terms of gameplay but does this engine ever look damn good. A nice example of some of the engine higher end capabilities. sooooo looking forward to seeing something else developed on this engine. once the dreaded stutter problem is put to rest i think this engine could be really something more than a cool tool for a modding community

just watched it.... damn nice although there are a few errors in the engine. woulda liked to have seen a game in action rather than some light rendering. Still good though. Be nice to know if they made that horizon or it it really is that far away.

What kind of errors? When is the HL2 expansion coming out?

You can get a HDR effect on normal HL2 if you download a small mod. Doesn't look as good as that though.

them errors. On a few of the surfaces there will be a reflection then as the camera pns it moves but then there will be a reflection on the opposite side too

Am I the only one who finds those screenshots offputting? It's not using the HL2 engine to it's strengths. That HDR/Bloom effect seem pretty half-assed, pointless and unrealistic.

If you've ever been somewhere like egypt, then you'll know that actually it's quite realistic. Obviously you have to be indoors for a while, but it looks like that when you emerge.
With regards to pointlessness, in that respect arn't all shader effects pointless? No, they make a game more realistic/pretty, it's all about the eyecandy.
Half-assed? How would you know?

Precisely, you said it yourself - you need to have been indoors for a long enough time and whilst looking at those screenshots you have to accept that they don't reflect reality but merely a poor reflection of a possible reality.
I never said that doesn't happen, I said the implementation of it is not realistic enough to warrant it's inclusion.
It sticks out for me in a poor 'hack/gimmicky' kind of way.
And yes these effects can add to the realism, but Half Life 2's engine is much better suited to the nitty and the gritty, rather than special effects such as this. Apart from which it's a waste as 99% of the time you are running around shooting in high speed, and 1% of the time you are engaged in a linear dialogue with another character.
The screenshots don't express any great improvements graphically, and if they even have the audacity of lowering the performance levels I'd find their inclusions even more pointless.

It's an opinon, and besides how would you know otherwise?

I don't know, that room with the golden vases hanging down looks more beautiful then any level I can think of from HL2.
Maybe it'll be implemented differently in the final version, and these screenshots/video are just to show off the effect. Hopefull it's not like that for every indoor-outdoor transition. But if they have it only when you've been inside for a while it'll definitely add atmosphere.

That room is an orthodox church. Now, where the hell is this one located in the whole game...

Yeah but this thread is specifically about the add-on, so why would the information be posted anywhere else. I know I prefer to have seperate threads for things like this, rather then one thread which you have to search through to find any relevent information.

seeing how the thread is called Half life lost coast video it is seems pretty more relevent to post a link with info on the release in here than in the steam thread...

I dunno, its more content to play on an engine that was wonderful. I won't complain.

Yes, i think iits gonna be built into all source games. Im not sure how much of the engine needs to be modified but its gonna be something you can switch on and off probably (like shadows etc) It's also gonna be available to use in mods etc. (SDK) since it will be part of 'source'
