Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes (Xbox)
Release Date: 9/13/2005

The wait is over! Microsoft announced today that Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes goes on sale on September 20. Hailed as the most anticipated Xbox action-strategy game of the year, Heroes will go on sale simultaneously worldwide. Set five years before The Crusaders, a new cast of seven heroes will take players through 50 massive medieval battlefields in the single player Campaign Mode. Action elements have been boosted with a larger arsenal of power moves, yet the new units and environments make the strategy even deeper. Fans are taken behind the scenes in Heroes to uncover the reasons for the Encablossa War, and will get to experience each new character up close and personal for a whole new Kingdom Under Fire experience.

Although The Crusaders has already been recognized for its innovative combination of action and real-time strategy, the developers have worked hard to ensure Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes is a bigger, better, yet more approachable sequel in every way. Random Missions and Custom Missions allow players to enjoy unlimited new missions after they complete the campaign.

The totally overhauled multiplayer supports up to six players on Xbox Live in the strategic Troop Battle Mode, the arcade-style Hero Battle Mode, and the cooperative Invasion Mode. Spectator Mode and Fair-Match condition make sure that even beginners can have fun online without fearing defeat.

In late 2004, Phantagram released the action real-time-strategy title Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders for the good ’ol Xbox. With a warm welcome from both critics and fans alike, assuming a sequel was in the works was a safe bet. For those gamblers in the audience, that is about to pay off, as Phantagram is prepping Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes for a release later this summer.

Set five years before the events of The Crusaders, Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes tells the tale of war and destruction through the eyes of seven new characters, as they fight and command hundreds of troops for ultimate control of life. Filled with humans, orcs, and elves, Heroes is aiming to raise the bar for this series with a deeper single-player experience, and oodles of online fun. With over 50 single player missions to battle through, Heroes appears to be adding much more depth to the action RTS genre. Players will start out learning the basics of their infantry, such as commanding troops and learning the uses of weapons, but by the end, will be commanding entire armies of over 200 soldiers in pursuit of total dominance.

Boasting 50+ hours of single-player gaming, Heroes is looking to give the RPG genre, a run for its money. It will feature the standard campaign mode, along with a random and custom mission option as well. Hundreds of characters will be battling it out on-screen at one time, and depending on the class of their character, players will have a wide range of attacks to choose from. As your character wages on, his/her skill will grow, which will in-turn increase the power of their attacks. As a character’s skill increases, new elements will be brought into battle, such as increased magic, new weapons (catapults and dragons!), and the ability to hire mercenaries to fight along side one’s troops. Each army will feature of 35 various types of characters, so the on-screen action shouldn’t be dull for a moment.

To go alongside the beefed up single-player experience, Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes has a meaty multiplayer experience for those Xbox Live users as well. Included will be a troop mode, which will see a player and troops going head-to-head with another player’s army. For those into team work, hero mode will allow players to team up and do battle together, and finally invasion mode will put up to 4 players into on ongoing battle, to see who can last the longest. While The Crusaders had a decent online set up, we can’t wait to get out grubby mitts on Heroes to see what it will bring to the online table.

The Outlook

The safest bet for Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes would be to add some new characters and locales to the already existing Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders, but if early looks are any indication, Heroes doesn’t seem content to rest on its predecessors merits. The recently released screenshots speak for the graphical prowess of the game, which is simply beautiful.

I've always loved kuf -crusaders, since it requires something from the player like NG. Evrything about the game is top notch, sadly the marketing didn't go to well, therefore the kuf series have their own dedicated share of fans.

Hopefully this one will feature sys link, then again it doesn't matter halo 2 fan boys won't stop being boring, so it doesn't matter (2nd reason why im going LIVE on 360). KUF in mp is probably one of the best games out there in it's genre.

Im REALLY looking forward to this one Smile

I know a friend who's obsessed with kuf Very Happy

Looks and sounds great from your mini review of KUF a week or so ago. Never really got into the the first game on Xbox myself just because of the time that it was released last year and If I recollect I also ended up grabbing a buggy beta of the game instead of retail.

For me its either an inspired move or a very stupid move on the part of Microsoft to release a game llike this at this time of year though, it'll have the typical sequels and cash cows to compete with as well as several highly anticipated more mainstream titles and as such even if it gets critical acclaim it'll reach a smaller audience. That goes without saying GP Force those games are piss poor, played Dynasty Warriors 5 last night on Xbox for an hour or so and couldn't see any differences between that and the umpteen previous releases. Its a game that remains a mystery to me, the mystery being why so many people like it. Laughing

When I start leeching Heroes it I'll boot up the first KUF and get some practice in.

At the moment im too busy with Hello Kitty: Roller Rescue - a real mans game. Cool

edit.....played the first KUF for almost a good 3 hours just there as I said I would and have to say your right GP, I guess Dynasty Warriors had soured me against this genre of game. Played through it as Lucretia and was impressed for the most part with the lovely stylised graphics, atmospheric sounds, hilarious dialogue, the balance between controlling your forces and taking a hands on approach which is broken up by some nice cut sequences. At times I fealt there were things that I didn't like and things that could have been better mainly in the actual control and interface although that could have just been down to not being experienced at the game as 3 hours is merely skimming the surface of this type of game. Gotta agree that multiplayer of this would be sensational. Very Happy

Never liked strategy games...
However, after playing this for 2 hours ( couldn't stop ) I must say this game is a gem - best of all September bunch for sure... I mean, this one has it all top notch - gfx, audio and the action is there big time!
IMHO - no Xbx owner should miss it.

wheres the tuturial ?? i get the button press hints but no in depth tuturials at all im 3 missions in and wouldnt have a clue if i hadnt played the first one.

As for framerate, the 360 version runs smooth, while the PS3 is a jaggy mess that chugs along in slow motion.

It's kind of strange that they didnt implement a tutorial. In the first game there were solid tutorials. Download the first one Razz
