1st review. soso, aka 79%.
"The problem with feeling let down by a game that scores an 8 is that it could have been so much better, but Rainbow Six Lockdown doesn't quite join the ranks of the big guns because it has too many inconsistencies and troublesome flaws to hold up as an endlessly entertaining experience. In light of the superb Black Arrow this is disappointing to see. Let's not be too despondent, though: it is still an excellent game that can be played either as a patiently planned assault, or a simplistic all-out shooter if you don't have the patience for all that tactical effort, and we'd certainly recommend it to anyone who has ever been close to loving the previous encounters. While international terrorists continue to threaten the virtual world the Rainbow Six team will be heroes to us and Lockdown is another great addition to the squad, but they need a lot more training to stay up among the best."

the AI on this game just sucks...and i mean SUCKS many times now theyve run out in front of me and just stood there whilst i clamly took aim to shoot them in the head at point blank range. They run right out you and stop
Or i'm infront of a window directly looking at an enemy and he says "shh i can hear something" blind terrorists its a first.

Animations suck, weapon sounds suck, models suck, textures suck, friendly chatter sucks, recoil sucks, environments suck, AI sucks, the whole thing is shit. I just run through the first level with a shotgun easily, theres no challenge at all. Ghost Recon 2 is about 10 times better.

Well what can I say? As evryone else I didn't have much faith when lockdown (LD) was about to be released.
I started the game, and I saw the videos, I immidiatly knew the original voicters were gone for some weird reason.
Ok, I went forward started the first mission in the game, once again the voice actors from the other rainbow six games were nowhere to heard, chavez and evryone else looked bad, terribly cheesy (team america?).
It took me about 10 minutes to wanna trow the **** thing in a trashcan. This is not a full lenghty review, since as a fan I wanted nothing to do with letdown.
Single player:
*Terrible AI
*Where are the voice actors from the other R6 games?
*Why does the characters look extremely cheesy?
*You can use a counterstrike method, rambo way to finish the levelvs
*The word "tactical" doesn't exsit anymore in this game
Now sp is one thing, I can't biatch a whole game because of the sp experience, although the other rainbow games were fun in sp despite their flaws.
I come from game's like "Americas Army, Ghost Recon series, operation flashpoint" and so on. So I really hate arcade games like: "counterstrike, halo2 etc etc.
If the sp experience were bad, the mp portion is even worse. Not sure where to start, but how about you can use a saw (heavy machine gun) and run and gun down other opponents?
Or how about just playing it like a normal counterstrike game? I went around killing people with heavy machine guns, evryone cursed me saying I was a moron and I was cheating and so on.
The weapon animations are one of the worst I've seen in a game, I mean you got an M4A1 with an attached shotgun, for what, blowing doors? Say I don't want to use a shotgun attachment, why can't I take it off?
Why is it so easy to aim while your running? Why are the weapons so poorly made, and there's not a good choice either.
Multi Player Experience
*Even worse then sp
*Unbalanced Weapons
*attachments, yet you can't remove em
*Horrible weapon handling
*Bad Sound
*Gun and run is very much alive in the full version, present in demo, completed here
I've read several Clancy books, and R6 is one of my favorite, I love both games on the xbox, rainbowsix and black arrow. What most people like about r6, this is not counterstrike, you can't run and gun, you can't act like rambo, you can't..... then again lockdown does all above.
This is probably the first time I've seen a bad game near logo of "ubisoft". For me ubisoft has always been about quality+making one of the coolest game/book adapted series - R6 Lockdown changed evrything.....
Im not sure if we'll ever hear the VOICE ACTORS FROM THE PREVIOS R6 GAMES, Ding, eddie, price,John Clark saying "Tango, Grenade"
Rating 4/10
I have nothing else to say,I could have made it more thourougly but since it's so bad I won't waste any time on it....
I'll be expecting the normal ubisoft employers accounts to trash this thread...
IGN will probably hype it to the sky's...
"Where is the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing? They have passed like rain on the mountain, like wind in the meadow. The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow."
Here's another review from a guy who has more patience then me:
"After months of waiting the sequal to the massively popular rainbow six 3 and black arrow has finally arrived.
So is it going to be another great clancy game,
or will it be rainbow six letdown.....
Read on.
A game of two halves,, DEFINATLY.
single player
Well First thing i did was a quick terrorist hunt on 1 player, played for 10 minutes, and i was amazed,
Fantastic lighting, great level design, and for once, unlike the previous r6 games your forced to switch between your differant vision modes, Straight away your starting in a dark car park and you simply cant see a thing,
when you switch to night vision your then greated by a few explosions, which force you to position yourself carefully as you cant see past the glow of the fallen debris.
with a Fantastic shot detection system you soon find yourself making clever headshots, and capping your enemies legs just to see them cripple in pain.
The first level alone takes you through a mixture of sections, underground car-park, through close corridors, and into the street with terrorists on the balcony's.
All in all it is definatly one of the best singleplayer matches i've played in a long time.
And one of the greatest things was, i ran out of ammo, Because i wasnt vigilant enough with my shots i had to switch to my 92fs (silenced pistol)
After taking out one of my own team with a headshot i eventually ended up getting shot from behind and dying.
And while many of you have no doubt heard multiple opinions i will gladly stand up and say that for a single player campaign this is fantastic.
BUT..............
Multiplayer
I went onto kai, to play a few games on system link.
Firstly no voice.
Not the end of the world, but still a major differance to when we're used to shouting out commands to our team.
The first game, was terrible, four people playing and with every kill there would be a little bit of lag, (yes LAG with four players)
Graphical detail seemed to have been dropped in order to try and keep the framerate up.
And while i eventually found a gun where i was able to take people down with long range head-shots, (and keep up a decent fire rate) i sound ended up in a battle,
What happens next...?
I'm crouched, assault rifle poised ready for the headshot.
And suddenly a mad-man comes flying round th ecorner, guns blazing from about 100 yards.
so what happens next,
Well there's the problem, While aim is definatly decreased when moving, it seems to leave a pretty random experience on multiplayer
meaning no matter how accurate you may be, the run & gunner will get as many kils as th emore intelligent player.;
Next game, more people joined, and with 6 players, there was no more lag, but still the jump everytime someone got a kill proved to be annoying.
Well after wanting so much from this game i proceeded to give it another chance,
a differant weapon, proximity flash mines, and i was getting kills like normal, even found a underground pass to sneak up on the enemies, and i got a dozen kills easily, but not because i was playing better, simply becaus eth eguys on the other team didnt notice my position and i got 6 kills unanswered.
So , to sum things up so far, this is a confusing game, Good or bad, or both.
if you can't be arsed to read more scroll to the bottom, But if you can endure any more, then read away
Graphics
Graphics are amazing and poor at the same time, In single player, multiple special effects, great lighting and nice contrasting levels make the graphics look amazing.
But in multiplayer the core graphics are there without all the added special effects, and in fact those core graphics are no better than rainbow six which is years old (But not terrible)
Sound
Again a mixed bag, in single player, gunshots are accompanied by enemy cries, and team commands, in a decent compilation that is floored by some poor voice acting that sounds a little too scripted,
While in multiplayer, the lack of voice speak, leaves a airy silence with the occasional gunfire (which seems less realistic than black arrow)
Gameplay
If lik eme you take you time and play ina more realistic way you'll enjoy the single player, enemy AI is made on 3 levels, with the first, firing more freely, and the third firing much more accuratly, While i'm yet to see how the promised "rainbow skilled" 3rd tier actually play out,
but from playing a few missions on single player the decision was obvious, tkae your time, play how it should be, and carefully execute team commands, or run through guns blazing.
Either way you will get a decent distance, which is disapointing, because it seems you can take multiple shots without injury,
Controls are pretty much equal to black arrow, with grenades a much better hold/aim/release system, But in Fact it seems ubi-soft and red-storm have tried to create a mix between realism and arcade, to maybe please a few more people, but the drop in realism from previous games, means that even if you play carefully and realistically, you will eventually find yourself disapointed,
Lifespan
A few more modes have been added, meaning that the usual missions (16) will be strecthed that little bit further,
And with a few more added to multiplayer those who dont mind the differance to the standard realism in the likes of black arrow, will be playin gfor a while with included team sharpshooter,
*******************************************************
*******
OVERALL*
********
Ok, this is what you've all been waiting for, the final word on Lockdown.
So, how good is it.
Well if you wish to find a sequal to black arrow you WILL be disapointed, with the slight differances in single player, and what is initially a disapointing game in multiplayer, there's just no enough no matter how many modes or missions are available.
BUT. If you play this as a differant game, and forget about the whole tom clancy background. you will find a good game that is a nice mixture of counterstrike and rainbow six.
It seems ubi-soft and red-storm have made there decision, Ghost recon is now extremely popular and if you want realism they feel you should be playing Ghost recon 2 or summit strike.
Because they seem to have taken a much more arcade approach to lockdown which is disapointing when all they've been doing is promising realism.
I liked counterstrike and i loved black arrow, And even though this is a nice mixture between the two, i cant help feeling cheated out of what "USED" to be a fantastic series
If you want a game to replace Black arrow as a quality mix between single player and multiplayer dream on.
This is an all new game, and is like nothing you've played before, it's realism and arcade mixed, Which for the Tom Clancy franchise, is disapointing.
Bottom line
A new game, LOCKDOWN, forget the Tom clancy, or rainbow six name and you will enjoy it. But fans of the series will be disapointed
7/10
