A guy by the name of fernando has posted the first translation patch on www.evo-web.co.uk
I quote
" Well well well... Its good to be back!!!
Here is the.. first i guess, translation patch of our beloved
WE8.
ENjoy!!
First:
YOU NEED FOR THIS PATCH:
A CLEAN JAPANESE *DVD* ISO (yes ISO) IMAGE OF THE GAME!!!!
file lenght: 2,458,384,384 we8.iso
then apply the patch.
Contents:
Most Menus, options, (team names) and dialogs except.
Edit Mode, Formation and Master League/League. These are not done/incomplete.
For the ppl who likes % its about 20% i guess. Not Sure how big could be though. You can find pictures of the patch in the forums (p1.jpg to p32.jpg):
Www.winningeleven.com / www.evo-web.co.uk
http://forums.evo-web.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=24084
Thats the download area thread
THERE IS NO PLAYERS ENGLISH NAMES JUST YET!!! You will have to get an option file of memory save somewhere else...yet.
Also there's many typos and shit, but well its just a three day work. Smile
ENjoy,
Fernando"

Evo web are rather anti the cd rip.

Just being silly : ), I have the original but I have it tucked away as I only bought it for showing support. I used the GANT as my iso and patched it with no errors what so ever. Been playing the patched verison of the hdd.
They thought it(pic) was fake but can be real. They thought it was fake in the way that the menu was copy pasted onto that pic and later some effects were put up to make it look real.

None yet that I have seen, hang at evo-web for news as many patchers hang out there. Btw, there are option files you can download (to cd, xport or evo max) and they update transfers and player names.

Quote: | Fernando's Winning Eleven 8 English Patch v0.4 (16/Aug/04) ONLY DVD
---------------------------------------------------------
Sorry to kept you waiting, here is it finally.
What's New:
I have translated a lot on every file of the game:
- Memory Card Dialogs
- Edit Mode
- Training Mode
- Masterleague
- Original League and Stadium Names
- General Bugfix
Summary:
- Exhibition = 95%
- Master league = 70% more less
- Edit Mode = 80 %
- Options = 95 %
- League Mode = 80%
- Cup Mode = 85%
- Training Mode = 30%
- Formation stuff = 89%
These doenst include Help pages, which are not only difficult but
consumes too much time so that would be the last with training.
Known errors:
Its possible that due to final size of the files and only at this moment, when you press Select to see the help on Flag and Emblem edit, maybe others, the game can hang.
Im sorry but i need to make the files to the specified size. It will be be incorporated again in future patches. Its the only way until now and also its not strictly necessary to play the game.
Also, there now a problem with option files and Stadiums and League names. Using any option file like Evo's to put player names in english will let you also use the real Stadium names but not ALL the League names.
That's because the game only permits to change some of the league names and not all. So to have al least some of it and all the stadium names just got to EDIT and reset to default those names. Or load the game without memory card and then import all from the option file you have in one and then save it in another. The only hassle is that you loose
the wens. Hope someone can find a way to mix all these. Maybe i will put that option file out too.
Thank you all for your support and special thanks to all the groups with honesty like Wendetta and Wedoit. And to Polter2k !!
Fernando
16 August 04
Last note: I've seen some people and "groups" usign the base of this patches to make their own.
Please have some balls and decency to say you done it, and include that info in your read Me's.
Thanks in advance.

You must have the iso untouched, not ripped from DVD or patched. It got to be clean.

No, just sign up for evo-web with a proxy and ask there for support.
http://www.evo-web.co.uk/files/Evo-Web_WE8_Option_File_v1_5_Cue_Bin.rar is the cd which will copy a save file to your Mem Card. This save will provide you with most player names in English. And use the .4 patch to patch your dvd iso to become partially in English.
