Capcom Classics Collection
Release Date:
9/27/2005
As you will learn below, Capcom Classics Collection is chock full of perhaps the greatest collection of coin-op games ever to appear on the Xbox. Many compilations peter out after a few strong titles, which is an issue created by either a company not having enough strong games to make a complete “greatest hits”, legal issues concerning property rights, or maybe even some black magic reasoning that we won’t go into right now.
Other compilations fail to “console-ize” the given titles, creating an experience which is raw and rough around the edges. Capcom Classics Collection has also taken the time to update every title in a way that will make gamers feel like their getting more than just a direct version of the original ROM. First of all, game settings such as the number of lives, difficulty, and bonus life score threshold are adjustable, as well as continues, and time limit (for games that have one). There’s also a soundtrack remix option which places updated tracks in the place of the original ROM’s songs. Even the controller setup is fully customizable, with the ability to map controls (other than the thumbsticks). A “rapid fire” option can be toggled on/off as well for a slight advantage in games which feature index finger-fatiguing machine gun spray.
Along with the exhaustive setup options in Capcom Classics Collection, Capcom has also produced what looks to be the best compilation of bonus material in any nostalgic mix to date. There’s a complete game history for each record, a trivia game, generous amounts of concept art, cast/character bios, and even a tips/guides section. Another cool, console-like move on the part of Capcom was to make nearly all of this bonus content unlockable, which means that gamers will have to rely on their old-school skills to check out most of the goods.
AKA If you got a modded xbox play the roms instead
If they remade the gfx/audio/gave us tons of extra then maybe....
