maybe we can avoid a couple of "not cracked yet, which protection does it useeeee???? uauauauaua" just check the publisher and problem solved.

btw, gmx media was a starforce company and now it seems to use laserlock, ubisoft probably won't continue with starforce due to legal problems they are facing...
ea said they will remain with macromedia (safedisc) and vivendi the same with securom...

as for ubi, i read somewhere that they have a contract for 10 starforce games, is that correct? if so i suppose they use starforce only for big titles, so expect pop3, myst5 and so on

I worry with ubisoft, 10 titles with starforce, this could be pretty right, but silent hunter 3 isn´t a big title how SCCT, and is for a minoritary public (simulation-estrategy), indeed is a very good game. And after SCCT or SH3, how many "new" games publish ubisoft. I wish that ubisoft think in customers, and move definitively to safedisc.

Two publisher examples in spain.

Zeta Games (scrapland, xpand rally and other games in spain), they contract Starforce in all games, but after this, now recently closed.

Friendware, they contract starforce for some games, even Victoria (paradox strategy game). This game causes a lot of problems in PCs, (damage drives and HD), after this, Friendware promise to customers, that never will put starforce in any game, and aftter this, Heart of irons 2 (paradox too) is free protection in Spain, anyway there are some games that they can´t decide protection, for developer causes.

Very good thread.

Luckly only Ubisoft and Codemasters are the only decent publishers who use Starforce the rest of the decent publishers use other protections.

is not a protection... with valve u buy half life 2, u install it on your pc, validate it and play in offline mode without the cd forever. with the same account u can unlock the offline mode to 1,2 5, 10,100 friends and anyone is playing with the same copy of the game...
there's no protection in valve products

And do you really see any common points concerning the security of airport, seaport or porn sites with the security of software?

Starforce developers do what they can best and you should admit that they do it very well. Software security has nothing common with the security of citizens.

Lol protected porn sites. Yeah a porn site is going to say: 'I want protection so that little kids cannot browse my site. I feel so sorry for them' -'Well lets buy Starforce Pornprotect then!' -'He what?' - 'You know that anti-copying program that made Splintercell 3 became avaible after 5 years because the new patch had a bug in it' -'Ow that program!, wont our hdd with our shit load of porn crash than or have they fixed that bug?' -'No they fixed it yet, but if that can stop childeren from visting our site then it's a risk I am willing to take.....'

I know I will be hated for saying this, but I hope Ubisoft uses StarForce. I think they are the best developer/publisher in a long while and all the games I've played are great and worth buying.
