I've only played four games since I upgraded to a newer system. The first game I reinstalled after upgrading was Doom 3 which played without a hitch. Then I uninstalled and tried three different games. C&C Generals, Warcraft III, and GTA San Andreas. I've experienced the same problems with the latter three games, the worst of which occurs while trying to play San Andreas.

AMD 64 3200+
1 gig of Kingston Hyper X ram
Gigabyte K8 Triton nForce 3 motherboard
More than enough hard drive space
Radeon ATI 9600 AGP 256MB VisionTek XTASY

Now I recently upgraded to the AMD64, replacing the motherboard and adding new ram. But now the game (GTA:SA) constantly freezes after a few minutes. Sometimes it occurs right away, other times it takes about five minutes. I've never had this problem before. Could it be my video card? I had the Catalyst 5.3 drivers and still had the problem. So I unloaded the driver and used the updated drivers from the official VisionTek site and I still get the same problems.

After the game freezes, I'll Alt-Tab to get back to the desktop and the whole screen will go fuzzy with lines going everywhich way, I can hear sound and when I press Esc and move the arrow keys I can hear the menu being selected. Also when I get back to the desktop, the refresh rate has reset to 60 hertz and everything goes slow when I click stuff, in order to fix this I have to reboot.

I've had a problem like this with two different games, but not as frequent as with San Andreas. C&C Generals and Warcraft III. Doom 3 ran fine, but haven't tried it since all this started happening. So you think this could be a problem with my video card? I've only had it a year and a half, and if it is, you think I could get it replaced? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Have you had a look to see if your fan is working on your video card ?

My video card doesn't have a fan, just a heat sink. But I fixed it. I disabled the "fast writes" option in the BIOS of my motherboard for the video card as well as the system "Top Performance" option just to make sure and it seems to have fixed the problem so far.
