updating definitions should be done manually, and often. all updates should be done manually.

The most annoying thing with norton is when you play a game online, like a match of whatever.. and that "One button checkup" stats, so you close it down.. and then 10 min later the Antivirus stats, and im to lazy to set it not to start :>

You should check out McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 7.0. It is faster than McAfee's consumer scanner.

At home I’m using Symantec (not Norton) Anti Virus 9.0 Client and Server and a NAT FW. This is the fastest and best configuration for me.
At work we are using Mc Afee Virus Scan 7.1 Enterprise Edition on Clients.
But personally i prefer Symantec AV.

I have used 3 AV scanners: Norton, McAfee, and Panda.
Norton AV 2004 (or the ones used in systemworks) is definately a resource hog as already mentioned by the others. The scanning isnt fast either. The liveupdate for virus defintions tends to slow down my computer A LOT.
McAfee is a bit less of a resource hog and scans the computer a bit faster. Also the update process doesnt slow down the computer as much.
Panda Titantium 2004: I just installed this one on my other machine and it definately doesnt take up a lot of resources (on the 266) for scanning or updating. Its not as big a company as mcafee and norton but I am starting to like them already
Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition 9: I use this on my current machine and its MUCH better than Norton AV. Doesnt take up as much resource for scanning and updating compared to Norton and it runs really well. It doesnt have the fancy look that Norton AV has but I dont care.

Agree... It takes less memory and is faster. Haven´t had any problems or viruses for that matter since i bought NOD32.

I haven't lost my mind, it's backed up on disk somewhere...

I don't use either .. but if I had to pick one, i'd go with McAafee.
The more things change, The more they stay the same.

I got tired of trying them both, because the take a lot of resources..
kaspersky and NOD32 are better..
but i don't use one at all anymore...I just scan online everynow and then, or scan a specific file after i download it,if i am suspecious of it.
I am not afraid of getting a virus , because i have Datakeeper making daily images of my hd..and i don't want to have an antivirus running 24/7 because i might get one.
In ny case disable realtime scanning and it should make ur pc work muuuuch faster, and only scan files when u get them.
or try online scanning at http://www.ravantivirus.com/scan
Never argue with an idiot...he will drag you down to his level, and then beat you with his experience...
