once i have mounted my discs and booted the game up on my computer and swapped the crack exe. and started playing the game do i still have to keep the game on my virtual drives or can i erase them now that the game is installed on my hard drive?

You need to keep th image on the hdd so you can mount it onto the virtual drive.

it heavily depends on the game. Most of the time if you do a full install AND the crackers where kind enough to make the exe not check the cd/dvd anymore you re good to go and can unmount the image (and delete it, if you feel the need to make room).
Sometimes though the cracked exe isnt a no-cd exe and / or the game needs files from the mounted image even though you made a full install. Usually somebody comes up with a way to circumvent the need to access the files though too. Just google for the games name and no-cd or check out the forum/website at gamecopyworld

Just to clarify one thing. Unmounting a image from your virtual drive is not removing that image from your computer. You can happily delete the image if you feel you will not need it again (it will be needed if you want to install the game again), most people usually archive CD images for use at a later date.
