Wow...someone with a clean slate XP without any service packs. I'm amazed...but that still does not negate the fact that you should still go ahead and add the SP's all the way up to 2. As long as you tweak ti right you shouldn't have any conflicts.

how come you have no viruses or worms yet? Connecting to the internet with a completly unpatched windows xp gets you a ton of viruses in no time, or do you use a firewall?

You should really upgrade to atleast SP1.
Taken from Windows Update:

Quote:
Windows XP users: new security updates are now available for SP1 and SP2 only

And, you should really be up-to-date with security patches.

Do not update to SP1, and under to circumstances to SP2. You should never
update any, and I mean ANY drives, especially video, audio and mainboard.
Do not, even attempt to think about flashing your bios. Speaking about
hardware, you should stick with the "good ol'" running on previous operating
system, because the chances are they have less updates, or if your lucky,
none at all!

I could go on....but you get my drift by now, right? Very Happy

btw. SP1 does make you boot longer, but SP2 makes it all better.

I run xp pro with sp1 and sygate firewall and mcafee enterprice 8.0, this config beats the shit out of sp2 since you get the critical updates from windows anyway. I dont want to install sp2 since it's gay and the most annoying update i've ever seen!
