The social media platform Bluesky has recently picked up some attention in the online sphere, but why is that the case?
It functions as an alternative to X (formerly known as Twitter) and looks very similar in terms of its page design, colour and logo.
To put it simply, it basically functions as X used to do when it was still called Twitter.
Bluesky is growing rapidly and is currently picking up around one million new sign-ups a day, BBC News reports.
The main difference between Bluesky and X is that it is decentralised, which basically means users can host their data on servers other than those owned by the company.
BBC News adds: "This means that rather than being limited to having a specific account named after Bluesky, people can (if they like) sign up using an account they themselves own.
"But it is worth stating that the vast majority of people don't do that and a new joiner will most likely have a ".bsky.social" at the end of their username."

Edit: You know back in the day, I had a twitter account just to able to contact customer support of some companies here. I never used it as a social medium. When Musk took over, I closed the account. My post here just tries to encourage to move away from X.
Yay...another site where average people can go:
You know what? My opinions are important enough I need to mass email everyone on earth what they are.
Call me a cynical anti-social asshole. I think social media is, by far, the worst internet invention we made.
We don't need another one.
It's 90% average people, getting news from 3rd hand other average people, then arguing over it. People thinking shower thoughts need to be shared with the world. And people attention whoring. Then 10% of it is marginally useful stuff (that could be done in a better way than social media)
I agree, but sometimes it's useful to ask some things to others. Twitter has been beyond shit since Musk took over, I only saw conspiracy theory shit and other retarded content, so I removed my account.
I personally just end up on a specific site for those types of questions, or a Reddit answer.
I don't post on Reddit or go to Reddit. But end up on it a lot from looking for answers. (I don't think I have ever directly opened reddit.com)
While I am not an active user of Reddit it beats social media by a mile for one reason.
In my head, at least Reddit is 'rooms' of people talking about specific things. Sure some rooms might be noisy shout matches. But at least they are behind a door you have to open.
Social media sites are one giant room, everyone has a megaphone, and the entire room is people shouting as loud as they can into it, all at once, about 1000 different things unrelated to each other.
And the idea that everyone on earth MIGHT hear something you shout makes people have a lot larger urge to do it.
People can make up their own mind whether they want an account with Bluesky.
It's a twitter clone (better than Mastodont) and it's growing rapidly.
With Twitter you could follow certain journalists for example (during wars).
X has become filth. The Guardian:
Quote:
Why the Guardian is no longer posting on X
We wanted to let readers know that we will no longer post on any official Guardian editorial accounts on the social media site X (formerly Twitter). We think that the benefits of being on X are now outweighed by the negatives and that resources could be better used promoting our journalism elsewhere.
This is something we have been considering for a while given the often disturbing content promoted or found on the platform, including far-right conspiracy theories and racism. The US presidential election campaign served only to underline what we have considered for a long time: that X is a toxic media platform and that its owner, Elon Musk, has been able to use its influence to shape political discourse.
Traffic on Bluesky, an X competitor, is up 500% since the election.
The day after the presidential election, the social media landscape shook.
On Elon Musk's X, more than 115,000 users deactivated their accounts, the largest-ever mass exit from the platform. At the same time, traffic on Bluesky, a smaller rival to X, began to soar, with daily usage climbing some 500% in the U.S., according to data from Similarweb.
"We've been growing by about a million users a day for several days," said Bluesky CEO Jay Graber in an interview with NPR on Monday. "It's proving out the model that we thought would be the right approach to social [media]: Give people the tools to control their experience and they'll have a better time."
After an hour or so of scrolling through Bluesky the other night, I felt something I haven’t felt on social media in a long time: free.
Free from Elon Musk, and his tedious quest to turn X into a right-wing echo chamber where he and his friends are the permanent, inescapable main characters.
Free from Threads and its suffocating algorithm, which suppresses news and real-time discussions in favor of bland engagement bait.
Without Musk and without X there is no Bluesky. The only reason people go there is because they hate musk and X. This is also the reason that with every bluesky post, doesn't matter in which forum or on which site, X is also named.
I don't use twitter at all since its just a toxic mess (which it always was) but bluesky is and never will be an alternative.
Post something which the people there don't like and i bet you are banned in no time. free you say? Why don't you just block all the racist shit on X and keep on using it? its not like they shove it in your face. Normal people use it too. In the end you get what the algorithm think is right for you. Maybe don't click on every shit you don't like?
Isn't X dead for a long time already anyway? Last time everyone switched to bluesky because of a bad musk news everyone said X is dead already. Oh well maybe this time if you try hard enough (i doubt it)

I have a Bluesky account since back when it was invitation only. It is coded very well, has no ads and good algorithmic customization.
But that is all good I can say. It will be brought down by a) its success and b) its users.
With success comes the spying, the monetization, the ads.
The users and moderation will make sure it becomes a sterile, sanitized echo chamber. I'm not interested in a platform where everybody writes like HR is constantly watching.
Out of curiosity, I did. Am I missing something? What about that specific phrase makes it worth searching?
Not being dismissive or snarky. I honestly don't know what I am looking at/for here that makes it a noteworthy search.

@Iwasfaggotonce
Isn't that no different than cheerleaders that were for Elon because Twitter Bad?
Fanboys will be fanboys. It doesn't discriminate members across ideology lines. They all have their share of them.

Who the fuck cares about Elon? It was the censorship removal that was the highlight
The opposite of the people who care about Bluesky?
Just because one clown car has flowers on it, the other has meme faces, doesn't change the fact they are both clown cars.
