Mike Flanagan & Trevor Macy Reveal ‘The Dark Tower’ Adaptation In Works At Intrepid

They are taking on their most ambitious project to date: a screen adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, which creator Flanagan envisions as a TV series to run for five seasons, followed by two stand-alone features.

Quote:

* Mike Flanagan is taking on the challenge of adapting Stephen King's epic Dark Tower series, promising a faithful adaptation.

* Frequent Flanagan collaborator Carla Gugino has hinted at a potential role in The Dark Tower , adding to the anticipation.
* The series is confirmed and in talks with Amazon Prime Video, with high-profile talent like Flanagan and King attached, making it a highly anticipated project.

While news has been somewhat scant on the project, The Dark Tower has been confirmed since 2022 with Mike Flanagan attached since day one. The series has been in talks with Amazon Prime Video, though nothing is certain about that deal at this moment. Regardless of where the project does eventually land, its high-profile creative talent such as Flanagan and Stephen King will make it a hot commodity.

Unlike the failed 2017 film adaptation, Mike Flanagan has already boasted how his take on King's fantasy opus will stick more closely to the source material. That means, with seven main books and a host of short stories and spinoffs, Flanagan has his work cut out for him. The Dark Tower will likely begin with the first novel, The Gunslinger, which introduces Roland as he journeys across the desert in pursuit of The Man in Black.

It's a reboot and replaces the shitty movie from history. Too early to say when/if the first season will reach us. Flanagan is working on the new The Exorcist movie which premieres in 2026. I'm positive Flanagan is the right person to do it and that a multi-season show is the only way to do it right.

There's a lot of interesting S.King stuff on the horizon, from Welcome to Derry - an It prequel show (2025), The Monkey movie (2025), The Life of Chuck movie (2025), The Long Walk movie (2025?), The Institute show (2026?), The Running Man (2025), and now The Dark Tower series.

There are more in various stages of development:
