The "Like A Dragon" spinoff line from the Yakuza series has always been pure silly shit though. Kind of a guilty pleasure, and one of the few japcrap games I'll play.

Not like this. This seems totally off track in every single way. They don't know what to do with Kirryu so they just spinnoff in all directions

This one seems to be just Goro Majima though.

Looks like an Assassin's Creed: Black Flag copy+paste in terms of ship combat. Then again, there's no reason to change what isn't broken, so long as the devs own up to what they did and don't try to pass it off as new or innovative.

might have to play it. its like they mashed spiderman + saint's row + skull and bones and one piece into a game, and they gave it stupid mods as default Laughing

I can't take this game seriously and i'm way too old for memeshit games. I won't touch it, at least if its Denuvo'd.

i mean, it's not a game you should take too seriously obviously, that's its "default setting" Wink

it's one thing if i game is made to be serious, but its so badly made that it makes you question the decisions, that's annoying.

But i do expect a game i can take seriously? Yakuza has always taken itself seriously, except side stories.

What you say now is the good ol "Guise, it's good because it's made to be bad!" It's retarded and it means the game is just bad.

It's comedy, they went "Space Balls" instead of "Star Wars". If you take comedy seriously it won't be good. If you watch a serious drama movie and you expect a lot of laughs it'll suck too.

I have not played it so i have no idea if the game itself is bad. I have one of the games in the series, couldn't get into it..

This is about as Japanese as it gets in terms of nonsensical humor, stuff doesn't make sense. I'm not sure i would say i'm a fan of it, but i'm at least more accustomed to it than before. This is looks like One Piece turned to 11 Wink

There you go - you answered your own question.

The Yakuza series takes itself seriously.
The Yakuza "Like A Dragon" spinoff series is suspension of disbelief required, off the wall, batshit crazy.

Both have their place - though understandably may not be to everyone's tastes. At this point there are precious few long running series' one CAN take seriously anymore, especially from western AAA devs.

My only major gripe with the studio in general is the mass re-use of most of their assets among all their games. Specifically, the city layouts. I get why they do it, but it just reeks of laziness.

Good to see they got their head out of their ass and didn't paywall off New Game+ again, though I'll never forgive them for doing it the first time. Evil or Very Mad

February is going to be a good month, KCD 2 to start it off, Civ 7 a week later, and this to round it all off in the end. Here's to hoping it doesn't disappoint.

Like a dragon also takes itself seriously. The dragon quest stuff is really disconnected from the story even if it's sometimes intermingled.

Got mediocre review in a norwegian site. Was said to just be some meme game that made little sense and didnt' really have a story. I did suspect as much though. It always felt like they're going the saints row route

Tbh i like yakuza but sometimes less is more.
There are too many entries as is and if the main framework stays the same I'm sorry to say that i'm not as hyped as i was when i started out with Yakuza 0.

They either have to overhaul alot or do something more innovative.
Ship combat is a nice addition but doesnt keep the boat afloat.
Besides that releasing games in longer intervals would help aswell.
