|
 |
got a very good price on a 4070 ti Super (ASUS Dual OC) off of ebay.
it's a corporate seller so i can return the card within 2 weeks no questions asked.
according to the store it had been returned by a customer who bought it new but it is missing original packaging.
so first thing for me to do is check for any defects. please add to the list if you have further suggestions:
- visual inspection any signs for corrosion / defects / loose fans etc
- booting it up check if fans are wobbling
- install drivers check GPU-Z if specifications match
- run stress tests w heaven bench, monitoring: temps/noise/performance/artifacting on screen
- play demanding games running gpu at max load while within the return window monitoring the above

If you are looking for answers/advice, you're better off asking on the tomshardware forums, for example.
Otherwise, I'd do what you wrote down above.

Yeah, unfortunately there's not much you can do outside of what you mentioned. Just make sure you run a long benchmark for stability, since a lot of problems might not show up in short tests, but could be visible in longer sessions. I'd say a 24 hour session, but you should at least do a few hours.
I guess if you're really paranoid, and know what you're doing, you could open it up and check if it's the actual chip inside, and not some fake bs, but I'm not sure how well that would go with returning it, and it's probably just safer to check benchmark and game fps result against other online results of the same card.

thanks , but yeah , i guess there's not much more i can do
opening the card is out of the question, first sign that something is off during testing and i'll send it right back

it's a corporate seller so i have 24 months of warranty
gpu runs just fine so far , no issues
no coil whine, quiet, relatively cool, and performance as expected
:edit
just checked manufacture warranty via Serial Number (kudos ASUS for allowing this): Warranty valid until August 2027
