The classic turn-based strategy game series returns to PC (via Steam Early Access) with Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era,
as you return to the world of Enroth and explore the beginning of the franchise's saga.
Expect a full non-linear campaign as well as randomly generated scenarios,
co-op and multiplayer modes, and user-generated content, courtesy of an in-game map and campaign editor.
Songs of Conquest effect? Looks like a quickly thrown together presentation to asses interest. Overworld map looks nice. Homm3 vibes with faux tilt shift effect popularised by retro rpgs, but I really don't like that they're still keeping up with corny ubisoft units design. Top tiers aren't looking as special, when every unit is flashy and over the top. Just give me regular peasants, archers, and skeletons.
Used to love these games but damn the AI cheated so bad it pissed me off as a kid, just wanted to explore the map and find the cool relics etc but by the time i found the good stuff the AI would have hordes and throngs of units lol.
They also need to bring back story/plot exposition by having you read in the beginning of the missions instead of having terrible shit cutscenes with low poly 3d models like they've been doing since Homm5. Never gonna happen
Despite the publisher being ubisoft they put the game out on steam in early acceas. Pretty doubtful but they might listen to the fans while developing it.
Preview in German with English subtitles available. A lot of extra detail. Campaign map is clearly influenced by HoMM3, with many structures being carbon copy from the older game. Battle map appears to be the size of HoMM2, at 9x11 hexes. HoMM3 was 11x15.
