Got all my paperwork approved and officially own a two partner LLC in florida as of today.
Me and a friend started a woodworking business 50/50. Well I am providing literally all of the tools, space, materials and power. But its 50/50 after expenses:P
We have no income, clients, bank account in business name has $0 and no prospects yet other than friends and family wanting things to start us off.
But gotta start somewhere right?
Anyone want any furniture, signs, nicknacks, wall art or anything? Made by a 50 year old lifelong woodworker, and a 27 year old that knows, mostly...how a saw works?..lol

Tbh i might buy something from you. I love stuff like this. I just need to figure out what I need
I would want a DM screen for rpg, but maybe that would cost me a fortune.. ?
shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.
@Ankh
Depends on what you want. 3 boards that fold? Dirt cheap. One that has storage, and say a dice drawer, paper holders, and that folds up like a briefcase? Time consuming to make all the little parts so expensive.
I'd love to make me one like some youtube DM's have. But we use Foundry VTT online now exclusively.
Something like this if we still played in person:
But we don't so I'd have no use for it.

Well, i dunno yet ill just have to think about it - but i would love to support you!
Edit: But tbh, im not all against something like the one you included in your post - even if you cant make it cheaper than that one.

Well I appreciate it
You'd have to wait until my stack of friends and family shit is done. I had a LOT they wanted me to make before I made the business.
And always with that line of "This in nice, you should start charging people" and if i reply "Ok can I start with you?" get a laugh and think I was kidding. I was only 1/2 kidding.
So decided what I have left to do: Do it at material cost & expendables (screws, glue, power bill etc) if they promise to hand out business cards if asked where they got it.
For example I made this for my neighbor. its dead simple, just straight boards slapped together, basic shit. I didn't even bother making sure the screws was aligned and evenly spaced as he didn't care...and his son helped me. And he was...difficult..to work with and can't read a tape measure
(granted its Freedom units..so 6 inches 7/16 to him is "6 and 7 of the little dashes"
But his brother saw it and wants one. So made that deal with him.
Spoiler:
And I got like 15 deals like that on random shit
My aunt wants a damn china cabinet with mirrors in the back of the cupboard parts.

He's a friend, well a friend of my sons since like 6th grade that since I game with my son, and his friends. Me and my friends mix and overlap with each other our friend group ranges from like 21 to 55
I remember when I got a call from his mom back when he was 16 playing GTA5 with my son and me and she didn't believe my son when he said "my dad knows I play this", asking me if I knew they two was playing 'that game'. For me to go "Yea..Im on discord with them, I just shot him and took his car"
So he's as much my friend as my son's at this point.
But to the question:
Reason he is my partner, is I been talking about it for years...since I feel I missed out on like 200k worth of work by doing it 'as a favor' for everyone for nearly 10 years since we got this house with a proper 2 car garage I could work in. A car has never been in it, I took it over day one as "This is my shop"..lol
Anyway I was talking about starting one. So wanted to join with me
He has rough construction experience: roofing, framing, windows, etc. So he knows the basics and loves working with his hands.
Just for example in framing all he had to use was a circular saw, a speed square and a nail gun shit like that. He knows 'how' a router, jointer, or planer works and what its for. Just never used one. So it's not a 'tabula rasa' type thing where it is a blank slate teaching him. He's mechanically inclined enough to not have to babysit him on the tools to not hurt himself for sure.
Just have to guide him on stuff like the first time he tried to use a hand router, went the 'wrong direction' and it started running away down the wood (you push against its rotation direction, not try to move into it).
Or show him how to make box joints, or easier ways to do things he figures out pretty quickly how to do. But there is a "Hold on, there is a quicker/better way" type stuff.
Long post...to answer a simple question from me, go figure
But I get to have someone help motivate me to get out there when its 100 degree florida weather, I get to have someone help with ideas. And I get to pass on 'old man skills' to the next gen that is genuinely interested in it and we both make money while doing it.
Plus someone young and pretty fit to move around 3/4 inch plywood and shit. that shit is HEAVY..lol
I passed all my PC master race geekiness to my son, my love for (but mostly lack of good skill in) cooking to my daughter, and now passing on my "No one knows how to do this much anymore with their hands" to him.

Not sure if anyone is into woodworking, redoing my garage/shop since I got a new tablesaw.
If anyone is looking to get one. Fuck sawstop and their prices. This new one is amazing for 1/2 the price.
My old, jobsite, 'meh' setup I used for years with a roll around cart I made for it:
My new, Laguna proper cabinet saw! You can see the old yellow one against the wall in the background.
Also ignore the mess, had to move everything around to make space for it.

You know what they say about going into business with friends, right? What happens, legally speaking, to a two partner LLC if one backs out / dies / has a falling out?
Regardless, best of luck. That stuff takes some crazy skill - I know for certain if it were trying to do that kind of work I'd be missing a finger by the end of the week.

Me gramps was into woodworking... sort of.
No fancy DeWALT table though, just a blade attached to a salvaged washing machine (I think) motor and even then that was just for the one big cut he did. Everything else after that was by hand, just like you guys I'm guessing.
I miss the guy
Congrats on the new business though, hope you won't get many Trump2024 commissions

@tonizito
Someone pay me for it, I will make someone an entire Trump themed picnic table and chairs
Like now I got two "Thin blue line" rustic American flag wall arts to make for my uncle and his friend. I'd never make or have one on my own.
But pay me a fair price for the work, Id make anything you want. A diorama from the CNC and laser cutter of a midget punting a baby? How big you want it?

Same, my dad was who got me into it, he did manual labor his whole life. Granted at the start it wasnt willingly I did it, I was the 12 year old "free labor".. haha
1/2 my old tools was his when he passed away, and a lot of the tips and tricks only the long term old guys know sort of thing, I learned from him.
Also he is the one that told me:
A Mastercraftsman isn't someone free from making mistakes, you will, all the time no matter how long you do it. It's knowing how to fix or integrate the mistakes.
That line really helps with the "Imposter Syndrome", not just in this. But anything really.

Kickass and well done DX taking the plunge and risk. I'm 3 years into my own business (IT) with a partner as well. I'm actually travelling down the American west coast atm for conferences, absolutely blown away by Yosemite I had no idea how amazing this place is.
2c - put some builds / work on the social media channels.
the amount of crap thqat can go wrong with joints like that lol ... damage in shipping or using or of age , screws any time over that disaster waiting to happen
hope business goes well and u get no karen customers
