Watched it yesterday. What a total disappointment ! Dumb, shallow story, dumb characters. It's more like a B grade horror movie. Scott, what have you done with the franchise ?
Made in China is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get.
"The sequel to Covenant was originally due to start pre-production this month in Sydney," the user explained. "After the box office results filming was canceled, and a warehouse storage unit full of stuff was auctioned off a few months ago. So the original plan of pumping out another quickly has definitely changed with no immediate plans for anything."
Just when I thought Ridley couldn't disappoint me more, this happens. I mean fucks sake, the franchise is already rock bottom, how could I NOT be looking forward to more aliens?
I really hope this doesn't mean that blomkamp fuckwits film is back on the table.
Also it's not like covenant did badly..
ALSO Also.. I forgot Disney owns the franchise now I'd love it if they sold it off...

Third prequel is described as being in scripting phase. Scott will direct. But we'll see if/when it gets made, it was certainly removed from the priority list when Covenant flopped.
A third prequel, which he will direct, is in the script phase.

Covenant was a piece of shit due to Scott and movie company being disappointed in box office figures for Prometheus (even though it in reality did really well). Prometheus 2 was already planned (and partly written?) when everything suddenly turned upside down and the cheap stupid Covenant was quickly shat together on some paper. The compromise was too big and I have no high hopes for the next installment if it ever gets greenlit.

Scott discussed a continuation of the series in March 2012, saying that Prometheus leaves many questions unanswered and that these could be answered in a sequel. In June 2012, Lindelof said that while plot elements were deliberately left unresolved so that they could be answered in a sequel, he and Scott had thoroughly discussed what should be resolved so that Prometheus could stand alone, as a sequel was not guaranteed.

On release, Alien: Covenant earned a worldwide box office gross of $240.7 million (compared to Prometheus' $403.4 million)

The screenplay for the third prequel film, called Alien: Awakening, was written during production of Alien: Covenant and was finished in 2017, with production scheduled to begin in 2018. In March 2017, Scott said, "If you really want a franchise, I can keep cranking it for another six. I'm not going to close it down again. No way."
In May, Scott announced that Neill Blomkamp's sequel to James Cameron's film Aliens had been cancelled. In a later interview, he said he would have participated as a producer but that 20th Century Fox had decided not to pursue the project.
...
In October 2017, Ridley Scott stated that "Alien: Covenant 2" will focus more on the androids and A.I.s as opposed to the xenomorphs. Scott said, "I think the evolution of the Alien himself is nearly over, but what I was trying to do was transcend and move to another story, which would be taken over by A.I.s. The world that the A.I. might create as a leader if he finds himself on a new planet. We have actually quite a big layout for the next one." In November 2018, it was announced that the film would take place on LV-426, with the extra-terrestrial Engineers being featured in the film and being in pursuit of David8, following his nefarious actions against Planet 4.
At the 2019 CinemaCon it was stated that Disney, after acquiring 21st Century Fox, "will continue to create new stories" in the Alien series.
It's following the Star Wars franchise ruining formula. Original creator makes a great movie, hands the scripts to other directors for the two sequels to form a trilogy. Decades later the original creator returns to the franchise and creates a prequel trilogy that is lackluster compared to the original trilogy only to have it handed to Disney who will no doubt fuck it up 10x worse than the original director did with the prequels.

Prometheus suffered a few useless plot elements and character motivations that didn't always make sense but I still really enjoyed it. This franchise desperately needed to evolve and I thought Prometheus was an okay attempt at introducing some new idea's.
Alien Covenant though .. an absolute butchering, instantly killing off anything interesting from the first movie to appease captain derpo wanting to see the same shit over and over. They shoehorned all the alien crap in the final act for "Remember Facehugger?" moments.
2 new movies and established barely anything new, doubtful it can be salvaged.

lol, Star Wars EP 7 and 8 worse than EP 1-3?
Also agree with @Frant, the new ones are absolute trash, at least the prequels have memorable characters with consistent story arc's that make sense (this is becoming a rarity lately). What are we waiting to see in this 3rd movie ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I really liked 1-3 when they came out, no idea what i think today.. but they felt like genuine star wars movies, these new ones have nothing of the SW vibe left, or at least very little of it.
Enjoyed Covenant and Prometheus too, but i'm always starved of this small genre of movies.. its not comparable to Alien ofc..
A couple of years ago I rewatched Star C̶h̶e̶e̶s̶e Wars 1-3 in their fan edited cut versions, to my surprise they weren't as bad as I remembered. The Phantom Menace was still beyond redemption but II became watchable-ish and I genuinely enjoyed III
Maybe the new ones will be able to produce the same result with the right chopping 'n rearranging...or maybe not really, since how the stories are presented doesn't leave much room for improvement to be honest. Same as the Alien franchise, an unidentified flying dumpster fire with no redeeming qualities left :'(
Just remake Alien Isolation into a movie. Profit.
And keep Scott far away from it.
Yup, this would be the best choice really. It would make sense and it would be a whole lot more interesting. Plus you'd get the nostalgia feel.
It would be great indeed but... not suitable for the current tripe-A target audience. Replace the service androids with T-1 battlefield robots, introduce an additional crew of clueless "scientists", breathable nanoxenoninjaturtles from David's ghetto factory, add sexual shower scenes with Amanda and a lurking dino-facehugger born from Ricardo's ballsack, and then it will turn into something really interesting and modern!
To celebrate the two-year anniversary of the Alien: Covenant DVD release, we wanted to share a little fun we had thanks to a partnership with YouTube Space LA, who helped recreate David's Lab from the film's set.
Yep another tired, dead franchise you can make billions off because:
name +
meh, just bring expectations to reality.. It will be shit, have virtually no plot, characters, rehash the expected Aliens tropes and capitalize on special effects, job done. It will never stop until
