Those About to Die is an epic drama set in the corrupt world of the spectacle-driven gladiatorial competition, exploring a side of ancient Rome never before told — the dirty business of entertaining the masses, giving the mob what they want most…blood and sport. The series introduces an ensemble of characters from all corners of the Roman Empire who collide at the explosive intersection of sports, politics, and dynasties.
Writers had plans for S3 but it didn't work out sadly, was supposed to be 3 seasons originally we only got 2.
Actually it was supposed to be 5 seasons:

I discovered halfway through writing the second season the show was going to end. The second was going to end with the death of Brutus. Third and fourth season would be set in Egypt. Fifth was going to be the rise of the Messiah in Palestine. But because we got the heads-up that the second season would be it, I telescoped the third and fourth season into the second one, which accounts for the blazing speed we go through history near the end. There's certainly more than enough history to go around.
Shame they put fucking cRAP music in a trailer set in ANCIENT FUCKING ROME! They pulled the same stupid shit with Gatsby (2013) - a film stemming from a novel set in the roaring twenties inundated with fucking rap music. Not sure who the fucking idiot is that signed off on that shit.
I feel like this setting is wasted on anything except for HBO - they're not afraid to get nitty gritty, as needs to be done for a convincing Rome story. Peacock is family friendly bullshit - they've got zero business dabbling in this.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

Anyways, I have finished watching it and as I said it definitely gets better with each episode. The last episodes were actually great and the season finale was
I'd give it a solid 7.5/10. If you like the Ancient Rome setting, boobs and sex in the Ancient Rome setting =) , blood spilled, politics, intrigues and an OK story that gets more and more interesting, then give it a try.
It was a fine entertainment despite a few actors being bad.
Started watching it, and I agree with h0rny, it's not terrible and it gets better after the first few episodes.
I didn't see any trailers before, so I thought it'd be just some fictional gladiator show, but there's a surprisingly lot of historical (and accurate) stuff in it. Even some you don't often see depicted, like the Vestal Virgins, or just the Flavian dynasty/era in general. The way Vespasian, Hopkins' character, died (while standing up, saying he's becoming a god now), is pretty badass
There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.
