|
 |
Woke up Wednesday at 6 with INTENSE abdominal pain.
Waited 6 hours thinking it was like a stuck log that just needed a good shitting while hurting like hell.
As the pain kept rising, I packed a small bag and lugged my way to the ER (hospital is 5' from my place).
Appendicitis. I luckily avoided being operated because it was detected and treated early, so I might not need surgery at all if ever.
Was in a room for 2 days with a guy my age (awesome dude, we had lots of fun) that had it too and was operated yesterday because the doc thought it was necessary.
Although we basically came in the room at the same time, he took painkillers for 3 days before checking in, thinking it was a fleeting thing at first.
The doc said his was (in less than 4 days mind you!) dead and rotting in his belly, and that it was a pretty close call.
I'm 38 and he is 35, so this shit isn't just for (small) kids.
So if you feel that searing pain, go to the ER, don't play the self-medicating/tough-guy act, this shit might kill you.
Conclusion: Stay safe, keep smart, and don't put random appendages in crazy

My brother had this 6 years ago. He was barely able to move due to the sudden pain, his wife had to drive him to the hospital - ended up being operated the next day. He must have been 34 then, which is less then I'm now...

I don't know how DomRep healthcare system would have handled that, but despite all the taxes, I was taken care of not just almost immediatly but well, without any question asked.
Inputed my whole new medical situation while on the hosto bed, all the shit on my heatlhcare app (AG Insurance) and recieved a mail saying that it was all taken care of, no charge, within 2h.
I can't imagine the financial on top of the medical stress you're going through.
Shit, I can't imagine a system where citizens wouldn't wanna care about their unknown fellow man.
I'm happy to pay taxes as long as this system lives on. I have a secondary insurance that gives me some perks like a single room which I refused. I didn't wanted to feel "special".

Went to hospital, they decided to operate to find out what was the fuss about since they couldn't see shit (or rather they saw shit and gases only) on the images.
Thru laparoscopia, they discovered it wasn't appendicitis, it was epiploic appendagitis.
They "successfully" removed the gangrenous tissues, in two days I was already at home.
In a week after the op I developed pain in my back like a knife was thrusted there, couldn't breathe properly, started coughing blood.
Apparently I somehow developed a pulmonary embolism after the op.
Was admitted back to lopital for a week for blood thinners and observation lest I croak or get another clots in worse places than small blood vessels in the lungs.
That was 13 years ago. I was almost your age. The malady hasn't reoccured since. I take aspirin since that.
Full recovery to you, HubU, without any complications |

Ooooh brother do I know...
You seem to have been through a tough one.
My shit's minor and ultimately easily solved. Hope yours doesn't flare up again because these kind of pains... yeah, they make you feel like you're fucking dying.
Well, on the positive side, you get to seduce the good-looking nurses
All of mine were either male or were over 50, and the only hot one was the one that gave me my exit papers today
EDIT: Thank you for your good wishes

@M4trix In your dreams.
Anyway, all of you get well and stay healty!
@zenux Aspirine damages the liver, maybe paracetamol/acetaminophen is an option?
It also lowers chances of inflammation.
Neither products should be used with alcohol.

I was in DR when i got the CT scan scheduled, i was gonna pay 100 uninsured there... on the most advanced CT scan in the region, full body standing ct scan and all, or so they say.
I cancelled it because i cant read ct scans and i thought the doctor might require one in the US. well fuck me once i was back insurance did what they did

@Lopin18
Welcome to america!
American health insurance: We will deny 1/2 the things you think you need, and when we DO cover it, its $3000 for basic shit. But don't worry it's only $500 with insurance, You save $2500 off on what should be a $150 bill!
It was years ago, but I still can't get over the only surgery I've had as an adult, a simple sinus surgery that took 2 hours (the sinus behind my nose). Was $53,000 charged to insurance, and cost me $3000 out of pocket.

They use a three pronged tactic -
1) Delay: If we take the maximum amount of time allowed before we respond, hopefully the patient will die, or if he doesn't die he'll change his mind and give up.
2) Deny: Utilizing a team of barely literate high-school graduates, whom they train to look for certain keywords (but who otherwise have no medical knowledge) they deny the claim if enough point values from keywords are found.
3) Defend steps one and two with lengthy (and very costly) court proceedings - in which they are often found justified, as they've bribed our politicians to write every law to THEIR benefit, and not the patient's.
You guys in western Europe don't know how good you have it. Here - it's either go for something that could be minor, but could be major, and be settled with crippling debt if major, OR wait and hopefully it gets better (or you die - at which point its no longer your problem).

@Immunity
So true.
It blow my mind that in the US they have also convinced us to defend FOR profit middlemen insurances between you, and the hospital.
Thats job is to make profit by spending less, on average, on you than you pay in. That's their only use..to take money from you, and give slightly less of that out to pay hospitals for you, so they get to keep some for doing it.
And both are private businesses (insurance and most hospitals) that they get to make up prices. really. Go try to ask the price of ANY procedure..they will not tell you. They 'legally' can't. its a law, they cannot give you 'up front total out the door pricing' for anything other than outpatient procedures...Gotta love lobbyist.
And so many americans are groomed to hate words like 'universal' 'socialism' or 'govt funded', or whatever boogieman term they learned to recoil from, that they will fight to keep that dude above between them, and their literal lifes well being.
And what gets me? Is the argument I hear allll the time against universal healthcare: I don't want MY money going to pay for other peoples heath problems.
Guess what? Do you have insurance now? That's how that works...just they are for profit and keep some of it for themselves. You are actively arguing "No, I WANT a middleman that takes a cut of the pool of money before they pay people bills"

Everything about healthcare blows my mind here, its fucking nuts that "tough mericans" who love to not be fucked over, who will go guns out when a flag on their yard is flipped or moved. But they will surely bend over with ass open to anything else that really affects their life. Nuts.

Only in America, right?
This country has a tradition of civil lawsuits with ridiculous high amounts of dollars in compensation. I am not certain if I worded this right.
So if you have a medical diploma and you are witness of some horrible traffic accident, runway. That newspaper you just bought, put it in front of your face.
