Dark Matter is a sci-fi thriller series based on the blockbuster book by acclaimed, bestselling author Blake Crouch. The nine-episode series features an ensemble cast that includes Joel Edgerton, Jennifer Connelly, Alice Braga, Jimmi Simpson, Dayo Okeniyi and Oakes Fegley. Dark Matter makes its global debut on Apple TV+ on May 8, 2024, premiering with the first two episodes, followed by new episodes every Wednesday through June 26.
Hailed as one of the best sci-fi novels of the decade, Dark Matter is a story about the road not taken. The series will follow Jason Dessen (played by Joel Edgerton), a physicist, professor and family man who — one night while walking home on the streets of Chicago — is abducted into an alternate version of his life. Wonder quickly turns to nightmare when he tries to return to his reality amid the mind-bending landscape of lives he could have lived. In this labyrinth of realities, he embarks on a harrowing journey to get back to his true family and save them from the most terrifying, unbeatable foe imaginable: himself.
Crouch serves as executive producer, showrunner, and writer alongside executive producers Matt Tolmach and David Manpearl for Matt Tolmach Productions, and Joel Edgerton. Dark Matter is produced for Apple TV+ by Sony Pictures Television.

First two eps weren't bad but to get better the story should expand in scope as well.
If the remaining 7 eps are just drama about the guy, his other self and the wife it will get boring quickly.
Description says its a "journey through a labyrinth of mind-bending realities" so we'll see about that.
Dark Matter season 1 episode 4 "liminal" was used, the same adjective used in Constellation in similar sircumstances. So its official now Dark Matter and Constellation are twin productions.
I liked this episode of travelling thru different realities. I wish they stuck to it, but I think they gonna go for more family vs work vs evil corporation drama.
Bored out of my mind. 500 minutes of boredom couples moments and shitty american house party flattery, and 20 second bursts of something exciting every now and then.
Seen 3 episodes. I know it got potential, but i this relationship shit does not do it for me.

This is probably one of the best Joel Edgerton performances. He typically always plays just Joel Edgerton in stuff but in this he's given the two characters he's playing quite a bit of nuance but there both very realistic personalities. It's not ridiculously over-the-top (like a stutter, or being retarded like Edward Norton). The way the "bad" Edgerton speaks slower and confidently vs the "good" one that's more unsure of himself, you can clearly tell even when they are wearing almost the same stuff and it's scene switching which one is which.
Episode 7. Wow, we got some new development, apparently either there's more than one occurrence of "looser" Jason or I'm missing something. 2 more episodes to go
I would love to see the utopia world once again, there has to be some weird drawbacks to it, but not something that would have turned it into antiutopia.
Trash all around. How anyone could watch this is beyond me. Acting is bad. Script is even worse. Son cant drive and dad thinks its funny. Mon is in love with dad like its their first date
Apple.. you are the absolute worst when it comes to TV
EDIT: It isn't bad but it isn't anything special either.
I don't know if Joel Edgerton is just shit (I'm biased and don't really like him) or it's the script/direction but I rolled my eyes when
Spoiler:
the company assassin kills Daniela2 and Jason doesn't scream, bats an eye, nothing and later he is all cocky when the Leighton is interrogating him. And a couple of episodes later he is tears because his wife is dying due to some disease...
Pretty much feels scifi. So much dreary scenes, hit and miss writing, it feels like it has snail pace. 6/10
There is better source material when it comes to multiverses and fuckups but probably this was cheap to make as half the season takes place on green screen corridor.
I wish people had money for Black Science by Rick Remender so much better story about people being fuck ups and switcheroos.

It's still good but it does seem to have gone off tangent a little bit. Keen for ep 9 but fear a renewal is unlikely based on the drop in quality between episodes 5-7. Gut says the final will also be weaker, but I hope I am wrong
