And this is not only true for the gaming industry.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

This shit's valid for any industry or business. He didn't reinvent the wheel there.

The only difference is that the suits that take over any real money-making industry tend to apply the same logic.

They don't care if they are selling video games, shoes or diamond-coated drills: it's all an Excel spreadsheet, and people are called "ressources".

You're either on one side or the other of the statistics.
Key word: streamlining.
These people don't think creativity nor is it rewarded. Being able to keep on track with a bill of charges, on time: that's what is.

"Latest aggregated stats shows that the masses tend to love 34.56% love story, 10.27% uplifting and 55.17% action in the in vogue entertainement products they consume.
Get to work, people."

I remember buying the French vg magazine "Joystick" in the 90s.
I loved the stories on how a little studio, ie ran by the obscure Molyneux at the time, happen to make Dungeon Keeper from some crappy studio that was an appartement I wouldn't live in.

Think of the first Star Wars, when Lucas had to film the model of the death star on a road at night for pratical effects, and how good it looked for it's time VS the puke-inducing CGI crap that came up later.

Money kills creativity.
