The series takes viewers to the epicenter of America's struggle with opioid addiction, from the boardrooms of Purdue Pharma, to a distressed Virginia mining community, to the hallways of the DEA.
Damn, I wasn't really aware of the full extent of Murika's Oxypioid epidemic..what an absolute mess. This mini-series definitely is both well-crafted and well-acted, it portrays the downward spiral in all its shameful glory with the utterly despicable supharmen and greedy heartless cunts pulling all the possible strings to stay afloat, partially counterbalanced by valiant characters and the rare wholesome moments.
There are a few hiccups due to the fragmented editing/jumping, but it's a grim story that's very much worth exploring. It's not completely devoid of hope, though the system itself is so deeply dysfunctional that it's got a post-apocalyptic aftertaste.
The two part HBO documentary (The Crime of the Century) on this subject should be very good as well. I haven't watched it yet as I wanted to space it out a bit but will watch it soon...ish.
LOL I just realized that I started the thread for this miniseries but never got to watch it until now
Just finished watching episode 6 and I have to say that I'm fascinated by it, the story is just incredible and to think this really happened. Before this I only knew of the existence of "oxy" because of the show Justified but now that I see the whole picture, it's just
Also, some incredible acting, particularly by Michael Keaton, also by the young "Loretta McCready" (from Justified, not surprised about her excellence performance in this), and then Michael Stuhlbarg, his performance is... terrifying (in the good sense).
Anyway I haven't spoiled myself much about how this "crime of the century" affair ended, looking forward to the 2 final episodes.
