Yeah, I know, thousands of threads already. So much that it's impossible to search.

Used VLC for years because I used cheap speakers/earplugs etc...

I now have a pretty good headset, and a sound system "in the buying".

I tried to play with the balance settings, shuffle them around, and I'm having an audio experience that's barely above what the 10€ shitty spare earplugs I use sometimes at work on the fly give me.

Levels are fucked, bass deepness is either shallow or seems to search for my soul.
Just shit, all around.

Which sound player's the best out there?
Thanks Smile

EDIT: and anything that could help calibrate levels to the best? Super tricky (colours and tastes, I know), but something like that?

Thanks!

Foobar2000?

Also, be sure to configure Windows sound output for your specific device to 'full range speakers' and set shared sampling rate to something sane, e.g. 48 kHz 16-bit, because Windows can set it to 96 kHz 24-bit for some stupid reason.

fubar2k didn't help, and it was 48 kHz 16-bit and all.
Problem was that the connector between the USB and the headset itself offered a "7.1" built-in function that was on by default.

Just deactivated it, and it now sounds fine.
Never cared to even check that before, didn't even know it existed.

Nevertheless, thank you, prompted me to check thouroughly! Smile

Sorry for the bother, and thanks again!

Windows the best media player for audio is foobar2K.
Linux mpd for audio, or mpv video/audio (cross-platform).
