I can't think of a better match than these two (on paper), the ol' master of historical epics and the trusty Joaquin à la baguetteparte Commodus. Looking forward to it, though I hope the movie won't feature the same questionable editing/music as the trailer.
all this focus on the wife ... the dude practicly invented civil rights with code napoleon in europe and told the british royalty and the habsburg wankers to go fuck themselves and wooped all their asses , way more cool content then booring ass sex n titties and strong female BLABLABLA
i wonder what his bad stuff was besides some vices and firing canonballs at civies following orders as young captain to secure his spot in the leadership and putting his shitty brother as king of spain later on.

His wife was very much central to his early-to-mid life.
I'd argue he lost his vision as a leader when he lost sight of her (and eventually got lost in his own hubris), but that's a personal opinion
It's hard to see Napoleon portrayed by an American actor (), especially Joaquin Phoenix. I love the actor, but he doesn't strike me as the embodiment of a character like Napoleon (rigid, warlike, confident, ambitious), in the slightest.

I heard in france, it is illegal to name a pig Napoleon
It's not at all and never was, just an urban legend people have trouble figuring where the fuck it came from to begin with

the megalomaniac with insecurity issues is Phoenix (+ Scott's) trademark, c.f. Gladiator...?
napoleon was first and foremost a power person. ANYthing he did from his reforms to his wars was aimed towards either expanding or securing power.
Napoleon's character never struck me as a insecure megalomaniac. Sure, one can argue megalomaniacs always have an underlying insecurity issue, but Napoleon was always arrogant and seldom doubted himself much at all. That's why Phoenix is an odd pick to me, regardless of how much I like him as an actor.
I have little doubt it'll tell a nice story in a powerful way, but I'm not expecting it to be any accurate, it's looking like a very romantic depiction of Napoleon to me.
I'm pretty sure the movie will not fare super well in France, for some odd reason
To sum it up in a clearer and more honest manner : Don't fucking fuck with the legacy of our one and only successful military leader, you damned Britons

Well said!
But just like the pig thing, Fance being a loser historically is quite a myth.

Asked what he would say to historians questioning the accuracy of his storytelling, he said: “Were you there? Oh you weren’t there. Then how do you know?”

In a New Yorker profile, Scott tells a historian who made a five-minute TikTok detailing the trailer’s inaccuracies to “get a life.”

In response to a French critic and Napoleon biographer calling Napoleon “very anti-French and very pro-British,” Scott tells the BBC, “The French don’t even like themselves … The audience that I showed it to in Paris, they loved it.” Vive le roi du cinéma!
There is no evidence that French invaders launched artillery at the pyramids, or that Napoleon’s troops shot the nose off the Sphinx, another piece of popular apocrypha (evidence suggests that the nose was chiseled off centuries before Napoleon’s time).
