Embark on a desperate mission through the depths of a war-torn wasteland and unforgiving landscape of Siberia. Command a legion of soldiers desperately trying to make their way home amidst the chaos of civil war. Lead them through the unforgiving wilderness onboard an armored train.

In blue, the original position of the green soldier with his path.
From that position, he saw me kill the soldier in the red zone, but not long enough to be alarmed, just inquisitive.
The first body almost instantly disappear. In the meawhile, my soldier retreats in full stealth all the way in the back by the time the green soldier reaches the last point where he saw me.
Spoiler:
From there, he will go back to his routine, but I then interrupt that once more with a rock throw, then get him from the back.
A group/well-positionned MG? Stealth a grenadier, lob one. They will look at the grenade landing at their feet and go "Uh? Ain't that something!".
There is a lot of potential, depending on how moddable/patchable this is.
But as of now, while functional, I don't see it remaining fun for long.
The managing and exploring, again, being more of a routine after a while than exciting for long.
That's the thing with games lile Frostpunk:
You have a first run (and I still don't think I'm nowhere near losing in this current 1st run), and once the surprises of a first game becomes evident, you can build a "meta", then those games become the Excel sheet they are on that level.

One of the better recent games, I'm playing 2nd hardest difficulty and around the midpoint it's starting to get tricky. This game is worth a play, or download if it's out there.
Pro's
Love the presentation, there's something really satisfying about the gun fights, taking out 4-5 soldiers, blowing shit up, calling an artillery strike, using vehicles. I think the sound design, in game physics etc are really good.
The overall story is pretty nice, I like the cutscenes and events that happen to the crew.
Con's
Overall difficulty, game so far in second hardest is a pushover, I'm getting to tricky battles now around the midway point.
Combat isn't perfect, I e the cover system often leaves you with no options.. you must use cover. It's not that deep, each soldier archetype has some abilities you need to balance with resource management.
Soldier RPG elements, I don't think the leveling and selecting roles really adds much to the game?
Finished it, with a save file that said 48hrs or so I think (tho I dunno if that counts being paused while still in game which I did often). Having played Jagged 3, Lamplighters, and a few other tactical RTS/TB/RTWP games lately, it fit right in.
^AmpegV4 summed it up pretty well. Love the atmosphere. The setting was perfect. Even though there's no visual or gameplay similarities, playing Last Train definitely brought back memories of Metro Exodus. And I felt myself really wanting characters that rich and well written. Unfortunately, your roster is just mainly bodies to fill spots, with rare points along the way where they'll inject a situation with their personality. But the idea of a close knit group, escaping on a train, enemies everywhere trying to stop you, while you and your group simply try to keep each other safe and not go insane due to war... that's what brought up the fond memories of Metro.
All in all, I dig resource management, mixed with strategic and tactical battles. And this one telling a unique story in the aftermath of WWI and during the early period of the Bolshevik Revolution really had me engaged.
The game allows you to only focus on the mission combat and ignore the resource mgmt and vice versa. I found the most satisfaction in using only 3 soldiers for a mission-- 2 scouts using standard recon and cover techniques, and 1 grenadier to take out large groups or vehicles that my scouts couldn't. Some missions made this strategy difficult to impossible but it was still fun trying.
Anyone actually ever seen the WW2 movie Von Ryan's Express, with Frank Sinatra?
About a number of pow's that try to escape nazi Germany by hijacking a train and get to Switzerland. It's a classic and awesome, but I haven't seen it mentioned unless I'm completely blind
Does the game have any timed missions? I mean, if it's real time, are there missions were goals can get missed by taking your time and being careful?
In JA3, time only passed on the world map, which is nice middle ground I think.
There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.

Damn...thought this was a thread about this song. I love this song:
-We don't control what happens to us in life, but we control how we respond to what happens in life.
-Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times. -G. Michael Hopf

There was 1 mission I recall that you had to kinda rush to the objective within x minutes (I don't recall stressing about it, but it did force me to deviate from my stealth tactic). Other times, if reinforcements or an onslaught is coming, you're given a minute or two warning to prepare.
Sometimes in a mission, you can use a scout to recon a specific area and find a side quest. Sometimes a soldier has to actively be in the area to activate that side quest. I tried to play every map without setting off an alarm or taking damage. That was a tall order. And in 1 mission specifically had a side mission to make sure nobody sets off an alarm. There were probably 10 alarms in that mission. It was the only side mission I recall failing.
Once your soldier reaches level 5, you won't get xp anymore. What I did was open a new role for that soldier and start them over as a lvl 1 machine gunner or whatever. They can keep some of the skills they've learned from the previous role too, so I ended up with a scout that could also throw grenades and place land mines.
I took the game extremely slowly, explored every nook and visited every lake and merchant.
I usually prefer turn based (didn't play the Pathfinder games either, but that was also because everything there is on a timer, even the goddamn food ), and take things very slowly too, but I liked JA3 (I used the pause mod though ) and this seems similar but with a cooler premise.
