PostPosted: Mon, 12th Jun 2023 23:33    Post subject: Fucked SONY 32" 2014 to 43" TV upgrade suggestions
My actual 9 years old SONY BRAVIA KDL-32W650A has started developing a green/yellow transparent vertical line on the left side of the TV and it's bothering me out already (Haven't poked it nor anything. It just popped up there)

Out of warranty, cannot find the same model anymore (2014 release, obviously...) and no way to repair it, i was looking to get a 43" TV to replace it (Unless there's a better 32" alternative out there?.. Can't trust SAMSUNG much due to limited/blocked settings like "can't disable motion flow" , while mine can. I tried my sister's SAMSUNG TV and god, it's horrible and DISTRACTING (Read below for more...))

In case there's no 32" alternatives i'll say what i'm looking for the new TV to have (I'm the owner of a PS5 if that helps somehow)

-Overall better than my 32" TV (Image, blacks, contrast, processor, etc..)

-IMPORTANT: Be able to DISABLE Motion Flow (I hate it when games, movies and TV channels becomes too much softer and faster above 60FPS just to look better and stuff when it just bothers me A TON, specially when at fast scenes some stuttering happens or some parts of the movie goes fast while others don't. I know, it's difficult to explain. I mean, movies should go at 24FPS or something, right?.. Keep it that way. And if a TV program goes 60FPS then do not go beyond. My TV can do that, aka disable it, so the new one MUST DO IT TOO)

-The controller, if possible, MUST HAVE NUMBERS (It's faster for me..). I've seen the new controllers don't have numbers , even tho there's a "123" button, but it's faster for me to press 015 for example (makes me go to the channel directly instead of typing 15 and wait 2 seconds for it to change). Unless the new TV is so fast in changing channels when you spam the P - / + button, BUT STILL...

-4K (But also, just in case, be able to go 1080p full image, no black borders).

-Not sure about HDR. Never tried it and dunno if it might affect games/TV programs negatively one way or another

-Google TV included with Youtube, NETFLIX, etc etc services. WiFi and Ethernet cable (symmetric 1000MB/s contract here). Optionally it could have a "Red Yellow White" composite output or something (I use a device connected to my PC to record my TV with it sometimes, unless there's an HDMI method...)

Options that i've found out are the SONY X75WL for 629-799€, wich seems to have BOTH CONTROLLERS and seems more of a budget TV like mine (Nothing professional), but i don't know the differences between that and the X85K (wich only has the NumberLESS controller). I think X85K has native 100-120hz? .. If so, wouldn't that affect TV programs/movies negatively since it doesn't have a 50/60hz mode like the X75WL?

Thanks in advance

I know the C2 is loved by many here at the "Monitors thoughts" topic and it's like "The best TV and OLED in 2022", but here's my worries:

-First, it's OLED. Burn-in risk is fucking there and my TV's tend to be on a single channel (TV series) all day, meaning the burning risk of keeping the channel's logo there for the rest of the TV's life is huge. ("Oh, change the channel, lol". There's nothing else worth it on Spanish TV nowadays...). Dropping the brightness and losing the quality joy is probably not a good thing and a deal breaker..

(Note that the new TV's back will be facing a window where the sun is going to hit it's behind at some part of the day, even with a curtain down, but the room must breathe too, get it?)

I'm aware that LG has a technology/automatic feature to prevent this shit to happen BUT IT MIGHT STILL HAVE THE BURN-IN IN THE END depending of when does this function works and i don't want to be babysitting the TV more than well, watching it...

-Second, the price. Since it's OLED it tends to cost like 1100€ (From the 1400€ original price) while NON-OLED tends to cost less. Sure, the picture quality might not be the best and the blacks not totally black, but there's no burn-in risk and, again, costs less)

-Third, i've read the manual and sure, you can disable TruMotion (aka the SONY's Motion Flow) to make things look more NATURALLY/ORIGINALLY MEANT TO BE, wich is a little relief (altho i don't know if you can apply a setting for each mode (TV, HDMI 1-2-3..).

HOWEVER the TV seems to run at NATIVE 100-120hz, while TV channels tends to be 50-60hz, wich might mean that watching a TV program (or a movie broadcasted on a TV channel) will run AWKWARDLY, same goes with MKV movies played from a device (since the TV cannot play MKV files. JOY!...NOT)

Again, as mentioned above, a BluRay/cinema movie must be played at 24FPS , NOT soft / fast / smooth "like in real life", else it'd ruin the experience seeing some elements run at certain FPS while other elements runs awkwardly (faster, slower, you name it)

Hope you guys understand the concerns i'm talking about and can lend me a hand better now.

Alright, answer me these doubts about the LG C2 then... We're talking about the LG OLED42C24LA , right?

-How much does the TV auto-refreshes/moves the image slightly itself or WHATEVER to prevent OLED Burn-in? (I've read that it's a function the TV has). I tend to watch a TV series channel that has a white logo at the bottom right for HOURS (Along some long lastic "Coming up next" texts) and you can imagine where's my main worry coming from...

-Disabling every TruMotion function (Just like Motion Flow on SONY TVs) would make all movies, TV content and PS5 gaming etc play at it's original framerate etc without any smoothering/fast motion bullshit? (I tend to do that to every new SONY TV i had bought to , well, watch stuff the right way, else it's UNBEARABLE / VERY BOTHERSOME)

-The TV would be standing on my room's table wich has a window right behind it, with the sun hitting lightly (curtain) the TV from behind. Would that cause any issues to the hardware or the screen itself?

(The big one)

-I've read that the screen has "Native 100-120hz". Now i tend to watch TV Series (24/30FPS), TV contest shows/soccer (live broadcast at 60FPS, atleast in Spain) and , while i don't have the device (yet), BluRay Disc Movies (24/30FPS) and MKV files via USB on my SONY TV (24/30FPS) WITHOUT MOTION FLOW ENABLED (Again, to play at it's original framerate etc..) on my 50-60hz SONY TV (KDL-32W650A).

The worry is: Would it mean that every type of content mentioned above would still play at the same framerate as originally intended, only showing a tad bit more of details not being lost in the process and maybe having less ghosting (or whatever), or would everything run smoother and bullshit like if TruMotion was enabled, but "no way to turn it off" ?

Unless it's like my PC BenQ XL2420T, wich runs at 120hz yet every anime and movie i throw at it plays at it's original 24/30FPS true speed

-I own a PS4 and PS5. Would i see any benefits? (I know, get a HDMI 2.1 cable)

-I saw it can play MKV files, even the newest H265 format (Wich is a huge plus. No more Handbrake encoding). Can i make the USB input have TruMotion disabled too?

Anything else i should know?

Please do not say "Stop overthinking about this and go get it" or anything trolling related. I have mental issues. Don't wanna start a war here.. Please be kind and detailed with the answers, that's all i ask.

All i can say if you keep the TV own safety features on you will not have any problems with burn in, i have used mine as PC monitor for 1 year now, every day for excessive hours, panel is still perfect, i have used it always even in 21:9 mode with black bars which should in theory wear out pixels unevenly, but cant see nothing, i play also only MMO/ARPG games which has worst possible static UI stuff.

I've been using a LG C2 42" as a monitor for 8 months now and I've had no burn in yet

but I run it in a very dim room so it's never really maxed out in HDR brightness

Bought a Samsung QN95A a couple of years ago and i bitterly regret it. Terrible HDR, don't even support Dolby Atmos due to Samsungs arrogance. Well it's our loss as customers. Won't buy one again. I'd rather buy a C2 given the choice. I hear good things about Sony Bravia also.

Someone recommended me a SAMSUNG QN90B or similar i think but then i saw the 3:36 moment below and i said NOPE

When it comes to OLEDs, even new ones, sadly they last 5 years before they worn out (like my LED? wich did but in 9 years tho), while LEDs are longer lasting i guess, even tho it sacrifices a bit of blacks and image quality.

Everyone saying "Why not go biigger?". I show em this: https://twitter.com/DV2THEFOX/status/1669328416762478594

Originally i was going to put the TV at the center of the table (removing all the shit) but the window behind it would have the sun hit the TV whenever i need to fresh the room out (Even if the window can open vertically it wouldn't be enough and the "Watch TV" position would be weird) and probably fuck the TV's back up due to the heat. Also at the right side, of the table, not shown, is my PC 24" Monitor, so "too much close" and, again, "watch TV position being weird

But I am thinking of doing a wall mount better and remove the Ori scroll poster and grab a wall mount that can tilt up n down and to the sides while stretching the "arm" around, giving the table a tad bit extra space for things.

Still it is being hard to decide on the right TV for my needs.

Someone said the SONY A90K OLED but that costs like 1550-1900€ compared to the actual LG C2's offer of 1100 from where i work at. "Priced high because of the brand's name"?

Another safer option would be the 43X85K from SONY for 750€, even though i won't be getting deep blacks, etc. However i've seen vids where they say the image is a tad more darker than normal even on it's brightest. However this vid wich, for some unexplained reason, has the corners darkened out at 2:50 here

And 2:10 here

Call me a SONY fanboy but sometimes ya gotta swing somewhere else... But then there are sacrifices to be done..

I am a fanatic when it comes to 24p playback. I really need a movie to stutter at 24 fps like classical film that was recorded with an analog camera simply does. I hate all the motion plus truemotion features that are supposed to make the image more "natural" and fluent. It just creates what was known is know the soap opera effect and it always reminds me of amateurish home videos or amateur porn, shot at 30 fps or even 60 fps Laughing

I bought the LG C2 55 inch this year and couldn't be happier. You can disable all the true motion bullshit and enjoy stuff as it should look.

My previous TV was an LG B7 55 inch OLED, and I had zero issues with it. Have been using it since 2017. No visible burn in or anything (but I did not use it as a PC screen)

I was able to bring a USB with some MKV files along some 60FPS vids, used it at a shop where i work at and , after disabling TruMotion etc, all recent MKVs with whatever codec they were using worked as intended , even new ones (HEVC x265 like ASW's SPY X FAMILY anime torrents at Nyaa, others like the Sonic 2 Movie or a random Kimetsu No Yaiba episode)

And 60FPS with a SONIC MANIA PLUS. Although the tested TV was 55" and i couldn't pay attention to all details but there were no soap opera FX nor trails/ghosting etc. I prefer, as Damasta said, stuttering at 24fps as intended, else "It's not the same" (Makes me sick)

Sadly the 42" C2 model vanished and it seems that, for now, the C3 for 1600€ is avaliable but i've read that the differences are MINIMAL and should go for the C2 better instead.

Sadly, again, the only C2s i've seen are the last unit shown at the shops' exposition , costing 900€ but again "it's been there for a long time with the fucking demo, meaning the -lifespan- has been drastically reduced and dunno what ya might find later on after buying" and that's a big NO. I prefer it new, not used, FFS.

The best n safest anti-burn-in option, the SONY X85K alternative above, is also GONE from shelves only to be replaced with the 2023 X80L model (European resident, european model, or something Redditors told me...) wich is slightly less powerful and doesn't do 120hz (Although i've been fine with 60hz all the time) yet it still has those 4 darkened borders while, again, mine doesn't do that (Why cannot they fix these issues in 2023 YET with LED TVs?)

What i mean with the 4 borders is like this image from the X85K from RTings

And no, Damasta, i wasn't planning to use the new TV as a monitor like many people does here. That's why i have my still rocking BenQ XL2420T (TN, 1080p, 120hz) for PC stuff and to have a TV for my PS5, period.

I was told to try the SAMSUNG QLED SN90B but RTings (and another vid) shown that it has a bad panel lottery/russian roulette where if ya get the bad unit you'd have a "Local Dimming bug" that makes the panel all CLOUDY ON BLACK IMAGES

The quest continues...

Ignoring the fact (now fixed) that the PS5's upside down.. Say hello to the C3 (Because C2's are gone and C3 has auto-dimming fixed in newest firmware (NOT avaliable on C2), and before buying it i tested it with a USB with movies etc and all the important issues are GONE)

https://twitter.com/DV2THEFOX/status/1679838725046501376

-The TV's energy savings has been DISABLED so i could change the OLED brightness, wich's set between 30-50 depending of the input (Will vary up to see wich is the best safest setting to prevent burn-in but also enjoy the TV out somehow). Any suggested brightness settings or other things in the Image settings?

-Kept the "Logo prevention thing" to "Low" as it's originally placed. Should i set it to High ? (Does something bad will happen if set to High?)

-TV image is set to Standard for now (People says to not choose Vivid like with my SONY LED for some reason, unless it's safe to choose it with my actual settings above?)

-Disabled the red LED under the TV (energy consumption prevention and anti distraction)

-Obviously TruMotion has been NUKED OUT (Aka disabled...)

However there are things that "changed my behaviour" in comparison to my previous SONY TV and i wanna see if there are fixes to it:

-When i'm on HDMI (PS5), if i press CHANNEL +/- or a number it won't change to the "last channel mode" (CH+-) or the number typed out (To go to such channel) (Back then it worked). Is there a way to make the TV change to TV channel with the number i've pressed, or am i forced to press the Input button and aim/select the TV every time?

- How can i disable the LG logo whenever i press the power button from my remote?. TURN OFF ALREADY!

-How can i NUKE the "LG Channels" menu from the Input button (Same goes, if possible, with the "Green Home" square/option), so only TV and HDMI is there? (Are there consequences by doing so?)

That's all for now...
