..so i bought a 3d printer after a long concideration for like €700. Just as i ordered/paid it my cpu started behaving strange going up in insane temperature. Ive had it for 4 years or so and i did plan of getting a new pc by the end of the year or early next year - so i did not want to spend cash on my pc right now (especially since i just bought the printer). Anyway, i changed cooling paste, got new fans for my encased watercookled psu cooling...no change. Went down and bought a new cpu fan..still no change.
So my first thought was i might aswell get a new cpu - but then i remembered that i was gonna get a new pc anyway so, long story short - i ordered a new pc for like €3200.

Do what now? After spending aprox €3900 this within just a few weeks on my pc..i guess i have to do the dishes and clean our house quite a few times before my gf gets over this Razz

Why a new PC instead of new MB+CPU+RAMzzzzz+possibly watercooling stuff? Unless by new you meant just that.

I wanted to get a new look and upgrade pretty much everything. I went for this:

Fractal North Chalk White Mesh Mid Tower
Gainward GeForce RTX 4080 Phoenix
AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU
Kingston FURY Beast RGB DDR5 5600MHz 32GB
Samsung 990 PRO NVMe M.2 SSD 1TB
ASUS ROG STRIX X670E-F
Corsair RM850e 850W PSU

and ive got a couple of more M.2s from my old pc and other shit i will install aswell.

The only thing i could have changed imo was the memory and case. But as the price was already running high i decided to go for those. I can always do some minor changes later on and throw stuff from the new one on my gf or son.
I went for that specific pc case as i wanted some new style. Smile
sure, there are stuff that would have been much better, but im still quite happy with what i picked. I wanted the 4090 card at first, but tbh i felt like that price difference was too high for the performance difference (and as i said, its already an expensive month so i had to make some decisions lol)

The 3d printer i bought is a Phrozen Sonic Mini 8k - which will be perfect for me. I think ive done my research on both pc and printer, but ive probably made some mistakes - however, its bought and paid now so i wont bother look more into it Razz

Edit: the cpu has one of those enclosed watercooling, ill check what model laters. I cant be arsed to build it myself this time so im getting it done for me by the seller. Also, im aware that the 2tb version of that M.2 is slightly faster..but also more expensive Razz I think its like 1.6% difference in score or so.

Edit: CM ML240L V2 ARGB <- that cpu cooler.

Edit: I only just remember the ASUS problems lately. So i hope thats something that i wont experience.

Oh, wasn't suggesting buying a compatible mobo or another 8086K to figure it out and whatnot. Instead just buying all you'd need to get a working PC again which would be MB, CPU, RAMzzz I guess.

Yeah i thought that might be what you ment Smile

But i really need to spend less..cos i bought lots of other stuff last year aswell (new NAS, more M.2's, Samsung Odyssey G9 etc etc). Both me and my gf earn good, but that does not mean i can afford to spend unlimted money. I think its been waaaay to much already. Especially since i invest in games/programs aswell and recently rebooted my interest in tabletop rpgs... Then again, i dont smoke and hardly ever drink...do i supposed this is my addiction.

I like quality hash resin more than weed (it's either cheaply grown stuff that's not interesting, or overpriced "US" gear that's not worth the money.. it's easy to find decent stuff but locally-grown is the best both quality and price-wise, although it's fairly rare for obvious reasons), and that shit tends to get expensive when you want the really good/fairly rare stuff. I could always grab something cheaper but if I'm indulging in something like this, I rather do it right with quality products.
We both smoke about the same quantity each as a couple as we generally either smoke together or don't smoke at all ; I'd say it's like 200-300/month for both of us on the regular depending on whatever is available, it can skyrocket during the holidays though Razz

It's not a crazy amount and I cautiously keep it in check, but it still makes a dent in finances in the long run Very Happy
Gotta stop smoking cigarettes too at some point.. Bad habits ! Razz

Yeah thats not too bad for 2 persons. I dont like drugs myself, but everyone have their addiction.
One could say that your addiction is bad for your health while me buying stuff is bad for the enviroment. So both are bad in a way i suppose Smile

But tbh you should quit smoking! Life is to short to die cos of it...then again, you could still live to 100 while smoking or die young by getting hit by a car! lol

That always was my bad justification for pursuing that bad habit Laughing "Imagine I get hit by a meteor while living like a monk, how sad would that be !"
But yeah, gotta stop that bad habit before it fucks with our health - more than it already does ! Razz Like you say, it'd leave a sour taste to die too early on because of something so stupid.

Going days/weeks/months without weed is easy tbh, but nicotine is one hell of a bitch Very Happy Never start kiddos !

Congrats on that new rig; looks sick. Only thing that would worry me is the PSU. I always had the worse experience with Corsair. Especially if we had a blackout. I've probably replaced (for free, which was great, as regards to customer service quality) every single Corsair PSU I've ever bought. After I switched to Seasonic, everything was great.

Wow, you got a solid discount then since the 1080ti cost something like 600-700$ and the 4080 is around 1200$ Surprised

The 1080ti i bought was an Evga Kingpin. It cost me a fortune (i think it had copper fans) and was...shite imo. So it was more expensive than usual

edit: I had to check. The 4080 is €130 more expensive than my 2080ti was..so yeah I have to face the fact that I was wrong Very Happy

I updated mine for a while (think latest one was for Rebar support Laughing) and let it aside since then, doesn't make it work less well Very Happy

Same.
I go with the IT mentality: If everything is working fine, and all features present. Don't fix something that is not broke, by updating firmware/bios on hardware.

Drivers? Sure. Bios/firmware if a bad exploit is exposed? Sure. Nothing wrong and everything works as expected? No reason to arbitrary update a stable system just so you can see revision numbers go up.
