Loved the original DD especially bitterblack isle even though on retrospect the game seems a little clunky nowadays. But thats nothing a sequel cant fix. Looking forward for an announcement.
There were several things that I liked from the first game (free-flowing combat with beast climbing, bombastic magic system, some surprising locations) but the repetitive encounters mixed with the extra-cheesy writing and just the overall feeling of playing some sort of mundane single-player Asian MMO rubbed me the wrong way. I hope they can improve on those aspects, though I don't expect much to be honest. Still, the yarrr curiosity is there.
Yes, there was quite a lot of grinding for a single-player game. Always felt like it was meant to be an MMO. But at least the combat made it interesting enough for me. Tried most if not all classes in a single playthrough and had most fun being without pawns. Finished the DLC's first but got burned out towards the end where you go down to the Rift or whatever was called.
Scroll to zoom camera as you want? Hahahah, funny! No.
Character back-pedalling? WTF is that?
Control camera direction via mouse!? Fuck off, you are way out of your line! Reported!
I look forward to it but graphically it's not as good as for example Witcher 3 (2015). Also it doesn't even run at 30 FPS currently according to a preview i just saw, so either it will be downgraded or receive some type of miracle in performance.
I remember when you watched a new trailer for an upcoming fantasy game and it wasn't just about getting a new game it was about getting to experience a game with a graphical fidelity which we hadn't seen before. Happened with all the TES games, for example.
Yeah, and that is why we have so many shit games these days. People care too much about graphical fidelity and preorder based on shiny trailers. Give me good gameplay and I'm going to be happy, and this has that, so whatever. Now, the performance part isn't excusable if that is the case, but there's time to fix that until release. Funny that you mention TES since they're the worst offenders when it comes to shiny graphics and shit gameplay.
while it does look like it's been frozen in time, i am with Kezmark on this one.
rather deliver excellent gameplay , world building and hopefully optimization than shiny new graphics, shitty gameplay and performance desaster (i.e. what we've been seeing with pretty much all AA(A) titles lately).
formula für DD didn't need changing so this looks great to me

TES has been really amazing open world games up until Skyrim which i didn't really care for too much, but I also got burned out on them i think. Very few open world games lives up to them, they all have been ground breaking in some way (often both graphically and something else, like NPC AI behavior or giving the player a very interactive world)
Without TES as reference there's very little chance you would have open world games like Elden Ring or Dragon's Dogma, you can bet the main inspiration has been TES and the entire reason why they exist is its big success. TES opened up the doors for many great open world games, and yes, many shit ones as well.
Just noticed they even included Khajiit-race in Dragons Dogma 2... buuuut they probably never played TES right?
Great graphics and great gameplay is my preference vs just great gameplay. We will see it again i think with Unreal Engine 5, it's just taking a hell of a lot of time before anything substantial is happening. Graphics has looked the ~same for 8'ish years, give me something new and beautiful to look at.

Morrowind is up there in my favorite games list, top10-20 and I was hyped back in the day for Oblivion, but combat wise they were both fairly shit even back then. The rest of their systems also had a mix of good and bad, and oblivion took a lot of the cool shit you could do in morrowind out, only for skyrim to water it down even more.
They were great cause they looked amazing for the time and were early open world games, which had a sort of magical charm to it back then (at least for me, these days open world is a massive negative as opposed to the past, because I know it is all bs and it is a watered down, padded experience. Only Rockstar can make good open world, and even then I'm not sure they wouldn't make a better game if they created a more focused experience.). Morrowind in particular was also very atmospheric, and that was a major plus. They both had good writing here and there, outside the main quest mainly, but it was present. The lore was also interesting. By Skyrim I didn't care anymore...
As for the cat people ... I mean come on, TES did not invent cat people.
Wait, you're trying to tell me that every furry out there is like that because of Morrowind? Because if so, someone should travel back in time and make sure that bethesda dies and is never able to release it

Hardly, but it's kind of obvious where their inspiration is from. TES has great lore overall, even read one of the books, it was quite decent.
Combat has never been their strong side, no. I guess for both Oblivion and Skyrim it was quite ok for the time, it's not like it was better in other similar games, maybe with the exception of the Gothic (1-2) games (which wasnt stellar either, but it was better)
I'd prefer it if they went with a different art style / direction instead of sticking with the first game's bland/generic art style. I don't need high quality realistic visuals, but I'd like a more striking aesthetic.
