HBO premiered the first two episodes of its controversial new TV series “The Idol” at the Cannes Film Festival the other night, and the resulting reviews have been… interesting.
The series has managed to garner the unprecedentedly bad score of just 9% on Rotten Tomatoes with just one positive review out of eleven so far. The reaction has been overwhelmingly negative towards the series.
The Playlist give it a ‘D’ grade and says: “It’s the extension of a music star’s misplaced self-belief of his potential movie star credentials. In short, it’s crude, gross, and sexist.” Collider also gave it a ‘D’ saying what the show “perceives as provocative and subversive is rather underwhelming” and dubs it bland.
Rolling Stone says it’s “nasty, brutish, [feels] much longer than it is, and way, way worse than you’d have anticipated.” Variety describes it as: “Picture ‘Blonde’ as Joe Eszterhas might have written it but with better music.”
i dont think the show deserved such hate, i can understand why people would not like it, but its far, very far from the worst shit everyone keeps saying, not much happens but its very competent made, has great cinematography, shot on film, directing, score, acting, interesting story take, def not boring. exactly what ud expect from sam levinson.
so what if its a little bit more edgy, such snowflakes these days go watch something else, disney has all the quality shows for u, geez, people forget hbo was known for such edgy shit.
idk about the ending twist, but overall show is like a solid 7, it has some great moments, if there would be a season 2 i would watch it.
anyway, lilly looks so much like depp like wtf, u cannot unsee jack sparrow, still she was very good in this
I haven't yet watched it. But from reading around on Reddit and web, it seems the hate mostly comes from prudish woke morons getting offended by the sex scenes.
yeah well depps character is into some bdsm shit. this is where all the early rape reviews came from canes . also there seems to be some hate towards levinson because of that variaty article that was released earlier. last episode even had a 3. something score on imdb just hours before even it got released
