I didn't get a Horizon vibe at all. It also doesn't look nearly as good. The story and characters in Horizon is for the most part really cringy, but (ranged) combat and environments are fantastic.

Yeah, should have mentioned the characters, story and overall vibe is as tragic as Horizon. But beyond looking good, the environments in Horizon were also quite static.
So in late rate system where 5 is awful, barely playable this is mediocre at best ;p

Too many good games to bother with this atm. By the time most people are done with those - Starfield. Poor time to launch such a bland looking game imMMMoooooo!
It's understandable that the devs wanted to try something different after releasing several soulslikes in a row, however, this game definitely gave the impression of being doomed from the start. It looked ultra-generic even by today's standards, and it also happens to strongly remind people of Forspoken which adds insult to injury
I hope Deck13 will bounce back and make a follow-up to The Surge 2, it was one of the very few titles coming from that specific genre that didn't feel like a From copypasta but actually offered some interesting mechanics and designs, warts and all.
I can't speak to how the game was before this latest major update (don't know what has changed), but I'm having fun with this.
Yea, the story is generic and the voice work is middling at best, but the combat flows smoothly, it controls great with mouse and keyboard, and there seems to be enough variety in weapons/equipment/builds.
I did have to launch in Vulkan rather than DX12 to get stable 70+ fps, but DX12 has never played nicely with my old ass GPU so your mileage may vary.
I'd say its worth giving it a shot if you haven't.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

What are you talking about? It was received as beign mediocre at worst. To me it was 7/10 despite some technical issues, if those are ironed out now it's easily 7,5.
