I think this one deserves a topic of its own Very Happy

Quote:
Designed and written by the same team that brought you Dragon Age: Origins, the Awakening expansion pack offers a brand new area of the world to explore known as Amaranthine, featuring an epic story that will allow players to unravel the secrets of the darkspawn - and their true motivations! Players will face a range of horrific and terrifying creatures including an evolved, intelligent breed of darkspawn and other menacing creatures such as the Inferno Golem and Spectral Dragon. Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening provides exciting new ways for players to customize their heroes and party, including the ability to re-spec their character attributes, allowing even greater customization and replayability. Featuring an increased level cap, new spells, abilities, specializations and items, plus five all-new party members, players can continue their adventures from Dragon Age: Origins, or begin with a brand new character.

“Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening shows BioWare’s commitment to our fans by delivering new story-driven experiences which enrich the dark heroic fantasy universe our fans have come to know and love,” said Dr. Ray Muzyka, Group General Manager of the RPG/MMO Group, EA, and Co-Founder, BioWare. “The vibrant worldwide community of Dragon Age fans will relish uncovering the secret motivations of the darkspawn, revealing how the darkspawn continue to infest the world despite the defeat of the Archdemon.”

Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening, BioWare’s next thread in the Dragon Age: Origins tapestry, occurs following the events of Dragon Age: Origins and puts players into the role of a Grey Warden Commander entrusted with rebuilding the order of Grey Wardens. In addition to rebuilding the ranks of the Grey Wardens, you will be tasked with uncovering the mystery of how the darkspawn survive after the slaying of the Archdemon. How players choose to rebuild their order, resolve the conflict with the mysterious “Architect,” and determine the fate of the darkspawn are just some of the many intriguing moral choices that will shape each player’s heroic journey. Players will be able to import their character from Dragon Age: Origins or start out as a new Grey Warden from the neighboring land of Orlais.

Features:

o Unlock the secrets of the Darkspawn and their true motivations
Rebuild the Grey Warden order and establish their base of operations at Vigil's Keep
* All-new Complex Moral Choices: Embark on an epic story that is completely defined and reactive to your play style

I hope this is just the start of a long line of expansions, returning us to the glory days OF actually having full-fledged expansions and not DLC bite-size content. $40 seems more than little steep for just an expansion, but meh... that's just the market today Sad

Test it then, if you like it buy it when there's a special sale or discount on it. Very Happy
(There's a few pre-order bonuses apparently but so far that hasn't been a problem, haha.)

Holy shit... ok, I take it all back. That's an incredible price and one I'm only too happy to pay! Shit, my FO3 DLC cost more than that, for each addon! >_<

That's it, 10$ makes the difference from "pretty steep" to "incredible price"? Laughing
Edit: Oh, link says 20$, gotcha. Very Happy

If they include half the content they had in DA:O, it is well worth it, even at 40$ price tag. Smile

*laughs* Dummy Very Happy Of course going down to $20 from $39.99 (which is what the article originally mentioned) is going to be a good deal. I wouldn't pay $40 for an expansion, no way, but $20? That's acceptable =)

Of course, as you say, it all depends on the content. DA:O was/is a truly fantastic game and if the expansion even offers half that content, it's going to be worth buying.

I'm interested to see how how the game changes based on your decisions from the main game.

I have two saves.

1. I let Loghain leave, Alistair leaves and I marry Anora

2. I let Loghain leave and persuade Alistair to marry Anora so he doesn't run off completely. He seems to hate me though LOL.

Hopefully he'll be back either way. (assuming you didn't let Anora kill him) He was whiny but I miss his sense of humor Sad

Vigil's Keep

Amaranthine was the first of the Fereldan arlings to fall to the Orlesian occupation. As the port city burned, its ruling family, the Howes, fled to the countryside to wage a guerrilla war against the invaders that lasted for generations. No matter how enormous of a bounty the Orlesians promised, they could not rid themselves of the wily Howes and their ever-growing number of sympathizers.

The Howes chose the ancient fortress of Vigil's Keep as their primary base of operations, hiding the entire rebellion within the vast complex of storage rooms and caves beneath “The Vigil” -- right underneath the noses of their oppressors. When the Orlesians were finally ousted, it was at Vigil's Keep that the flag of Amaranthine was first raised again, amidst cheers of victory. Vigil's Keep became the new home of the Howes.

But after years of faithful service to the kingdom, Arl Rendon Howe's ambition brought about his death and his family's ruin. Now Vigil's Keep and the arling of Amaranthine belong to the Grey Wardens.

The walls of the Vigil have been manned since the time of the Avvar barbarians. The griffon banner is only the most recent in a long chain. How long will the Wardens' colors fly?

Isn't that a bit wishful seeing how long it took for the original game to come out, of course it changed a bit during development and it might have been idle for a while according to some sources while console development catched up but I don't know.

Should still have quite a bit of content to justify a nearly full priced title.
(Normal pricing being about 50$ albeit 60$ is becoming a bit more common.)

If it adds another 25+ hours, then together with Origins and DLCs, might be close to 80-100 hours. I can't wait! Reminds me so much of Baldurs gate 2 + addon.

Yup, one of the endings has your character sacrifice him/herself.

Looks like a second expansion is in the works for early 2011. That or DA2 is coming much quicker than expected.

Quietly looking forward to this. DA:O has some horribly unreplayable parts (FFFFUUUU Mage Tower) so I'm looking forward to being able to play some new content.
