its been a trend for a long time, but I'm seeing it more and more. Even in channels that never used it I watch.
Im talking about how if someone talking to the camera and does a jump/cut to only a few seconds later at the end of sentences, for what seems like no reason.
No particular reason to pick the video, not even a channel I watch but I clicked it in my feed and immediately went "Damn it, it does that useless jump between sentences". Like the first 30 seconds.
Like most egregious is the part of "I studied for four year for this moment (jump cut) so let's go" Why..why have one there? it's maybe 0.5 seconds between saying them without adding it. Or before that the 12 minute comment part at 10 seconds and the part before it that jumped to it..
What's the appeal of this style? It gives a fake 'feel' of they are condensing the content? like its a faux 'only the important snippets' type visual? They aren't really removing anything, but it feels like they 'fast forwarded' to the parts you want to see for you?
Is it just me that notices it every time it happens and gets annoyed by it happening in some videos EVERY time they have a period in their script?

the style appeals to the current adhs generation. Let me guess you also don't like tiktok?
i also hate it with a passion. as soon as i see it, i quit the video, remove it from my last viewed videos and remove the channel from my subs, or remove it from my recommendations, so i will never see the channel again. nothing else you can do about it, it's just a trend and will go away on it's own, just like stupid intro videos are mostly gone.
its also way easier to make videos like that, no need to record everything from the beginning, just cut all the shit together.

Probably just lazy video-making: have a loose script, and go for one take. Just cut out what you think is rambling or fluff while editing, and release as-is.

Actually dunno if I do or don't. I can legitimately say I have never visited the site/app (I say site/app as I dont even know if its app only, or has a browser accessible front end )
And only times I see any tiktok content is posts of them somewhere else, that would already have filtered them down to ones I wouldn't mind by where I saw it.

Quick cuts is an old issue, people have been doing it for years. I don't understand either. I would assume it has something to do with the lowest common denominator / attention spans.
Youtube has gone down the toilet in so many areas
Can't even do a very simple search these days without an incredible amount of promoted garbage clogging up the results. Yesterday I was searching for some very specific terms, yet linus videos would always be at the top because they are ever so loosely related to one of the words.
Finding benchmarks for certain PC parts is now is near impossible as product reviews seem to hijack any sort of search terms you throw at it.
Youtube themselves encourage most of these content creators to all do the same thing (stupid faces in thumbnails, how to make videos etc) so that they all basically conform to a similar format now.
And what happened to the filters on the video tab recently? Gone altogether. Why?!

it may be a good idea to not rely on this anymore these days, except for bigger channels.
i also did this in the past but now there are too many fake reviews going on, just so they generate clicks and money, so i don't even search for it on youtube anymore.

Oh Absolutely, been around for a long time. But the genre of videos I watch and the ones that had it was two separate circles on a venn diagram. But it seems they are starting to overlap.
To me it feels like I am watching the video and someone is randomly tapping arrow key to jump forward a few seconds, without me doing it.
Just so jarring to me when it does it. Like they are making videos with the mindset people can't sit thru a 20 minute video of someone talking, but if we cut out the pauses between sentences with a visual jump they can watch a 19 minute 30 second video of someone talking, because we made it feel like we cut out fluff (that wasn't there, but makes the watcher feel like we only put in the good bits).
Sometimes you can tell its literally just a few frames removed by their arm/head position etc. Cut JUST enough to make the visual we 'jumped ahead'.
