Inspired by internet retard user using MPC-HC via Proton/Wine and Steam on Linux distro.

Whats so bad about MPC-HC?

Also I prefer framerate interpolation

You got any opensource programs for that?

Does it have play and stop? It's a complete media player to me Smile

I don't like cross-platform players because multimedia support is heavily tied to the operating system and so far each cross-platform solution on this field was sub-par compared to platform-native solution. I like MPC-HC because it's focused to DirectX and EVR APIs and it works great (on Windows).

MPC-HC with madVR is still great but since madVR has not been getting new versions for a while it is going to be outdated soon. AI doesn't sleep and there are going to be even greater improvements in the near future.
Is there yet anything as good as the madVR smooth motion framerate conversion when watching 24fps video on a 60Hz display?

@vurt fixed the link, it was just there capture the upscaler and project links.

@Amadeus - I don't think there is a media player that doesn't do interpolation.

The long thread on MPV stock interpolation:
https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/issues/2685

My Config:
Quote:

profile=gpu-hq
interpolation=yes
video-sync=display-resample
tscale=box
tscale-window=sphinx
tscale-radius=1.0
tscale-clamp=0.0

You can use also use vapoursynth with MPV for interpolation: https://www.reddit.com/r/mpv/comments/oke3aa/guide_how_to_get_motion_interpolation_soap_opera/

Afaik the AI upscalers, vapoursynth, mpv and most modern innovations are opensource and integrate with the player ?

@Guy_Incognito - no.

@Leo, yeah i've used MPC, MadVR, FFDShow etc. etc. I find MPV better in terms of it being lightweight, running on everything. I love it's seek time, you can jump anywhere / anytime with zero delay - even 18gb files across a network.

@tonizito - u.

A liitle OT but I want to ask.

Is there any player with AI filters which upscale DVD 480p to 1080p with reliable results? I'm revisiting a lot of old stuff without Bluray authoring and this would be nice to achieve Smile

Also I'm using integrated GPU with a laptop as media center.

Thanks men!

Well... I'd imagine real-time AI upscaling from 480p->1080p on an integrated GPU is impossible (unless there's an ultra-low quality setting or something). I may be wrong though but someone else will have to give you a proper answer. I don't even know of any software that does live AI upscaling of video content to 1080p in real-time (24/25/30/60fps), esp. not on integrated GPU's. Perhaps it's possible on beefy RTX cards with tensor cores.

There's always the "Lossless Scaling" app that can scale any window like a mediaplayer playing 480p content into fullscreen using various techniques (FSR, DSR etc.)

Here is a great in-depth analysis of MPV with the present best upscaling projects mentioned in the OP:

spacebar to play and pause.
click to seek.

What else do you do with your media player GUI?

and yeah you can "< >" frameskip, "+- vol" (may be in the gui?), "[ ]" change playspeed, "s" subtitles, "i" file metadata, custom config different upscalers to ctrl1-2-3-4-5 etc.

No. The Anime4K can be used on anything, just that Anime is a focus because it gets the biggest gains. It works on crap resolution content as well, it certainly improves the image.

FSRCNNX seems to be the best performing quality-wise, havn't tried it yet but that project may only scale from 1080p upwards.

what kind of player or codec or whatever is needed to play movies that comes of as green and purple? is that Dolby Vision? maybe it requires a newer TV?

downloading Wednesday S01 2160p WEB-DL DD+5.1 DoVi HEVC-DONUTS

and i can see in the example images that it looks super off.. says HDR format Dolby Vision.. i have HDR but no idea if its dolby vision, its an old LG OLED.

You are trolling right? What was the first hit when you googled Dolby Vision?

"Looking to experience Dolby Vision at home?

Check to see that your device and service supports Dolby Vision and make sure to look for the Dolby Vision logo."

Googled my TV and its says "Active HDR with Dolby Vision" so yes i guess i have it but that the player can't play those files or it needs to be decoded somehow to work. decided to download another release without HDR but would be nice to get HDR / dolby vision working if someone here knows what i need (player, setting, codec?) i'd appreciate it.

not in mpv but a "fork" of it named mpv.net does have a gui and other features..
maybe worth a try Wink
everything that works for mpv also works with mpv.net

https://github.com/mpvnet-player/mpv.net

i still prefer mpc-hc/be or mpdn though...

since nothing really comes close to madvr´s HDR stuff.

anyway, mpv.net is worth a try.
