Developer: Modern Storyteller
Publisher: Modern Storyteller , produced with assistance of Film Victoria Asutralia and Victoria State Government
Release Date: 2019
Quote:
The Forgotten City is a time travel murder mystery set in a mythological city.

Deep underground in an ancient Roman city, twenty-six trapped explorers lay dead because one of them broke a mysterious law. Within, a portal leads back into the past, allowing you to change their fate – or witness their deaths in a time loop for eternity.

Fortunately, hope remains. The Forgotten City offers incredible freedom, inviting players to manipulate the timeline, Groundhog Day-style, so events play out differently. By talking with diverse characters, making tough choices in moral dilemmas, and thinking laterally, you can unlock vastly different endings.

The Forgotten City is a re-imagining of the critically acclaimed mod, downloaded by more than 1.6 million gamers, and the first mod in history to win a national Writers' Guild award.

Key features:
  • Investigate a dark, gripping mystery full of twists and intrigue
  • Explore a beautiful and intricate city rendered with Unreal Engine
  • Interrogate richly detailed characters with interwoven lives
  • Solve problems your own way, with reason, charm, bribery, stealth, threats, violence - or cleverly exploit the time-loop
  • Grapple with moral dilemmas which have life-and-death consequences
  • Choose your own gender, race, and backstory
  • Listen to an achingly beautiful orchestral score and first class voice acting

Enjoyed the mod? ( https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/70219/ )
The Forgotten City mod for Skyrim ass the first mod in history to win a national Writers' Guild award with its script.

The Forgotten City retains all the elements you know and love while improving every aspect and adding plenty of surprises. Walk the streets of a brand new city. Get to know re-imagined characters. Sink into original lore with fresh twists and endings. Enjoy added combat and wall-climbing mechanics, an all-new orchestral score, professional voice acting, and motion capture animations.

Note:
This is a game about the human condition, for adults who enjoy figuring things out for themselves.

Pretty intriguing concept, it can either grasp me or not work at all, don't think there'll be an in-between Very Happy

Looks cool, I really liked The Outer Wilds, so hoping for some similar experience but with more character driven mysteries

Nice review (someone who likes the Outer Wilds knows what he's talking about Laughing ), seems a bit disappointing in the gameplay area, but also appears to shine in the writing department.
Still looking forward to give it a try

I don't appreciate first person games where your character SLIDES across the environment like a sledge on a perfectly plane surface.

These game-building geniuses never played exquisite FPS games made by Vin Diesel, Harvey Smith and Frictional Boiz.

I played through the looped urbs and reached ending #2 in about six hours, not a particularly glorious one but like Socratespeare would say, what's done is done. Eventually I looked up the canonical proper ending as well for the sake of completeness (only to realize that I liked the one that I got better).

It is an intriguing game, doesn't have much to offer mechanics-wise since it's essentially a dialogue-focused walking sim with sporadic archery sessions, but the writing is competent and its atmosphere is rather unique. The time loop device is implemented in a way that doesn't come off as annoying or intrusive, it's brief and functions as a means to unlock more options/quests and unravel the mystery. A nice concept that could have been expanded further and with less tired faces, but I imagine the budget constraints were trickier than the Golden Rule itself.

Played it in one sitting, took me about 8 hours, got ending 4, it's a nice game, you mostly talk to npcs and trying to figure the time loop, the best time was up untill you get who's making the troubles, the ending and what lead to it was meh, some nice combat areas.

Just finished this, the ending was a bit sooner than I expected, but I completed the first three endings myself. I didn't want to look for all the plaques (I did finish most dialogs) so I went on YT to view the 4th one. But very well done game this.
